Thanks for the info everybody.... lots of good options to choose from. Jacko, you're right. Too many options for a "best " so it seems like it depends more on a personal preference as long as you choose a respected brand

My favorite folder right now by far is the Benchmade 710.

For fixed, i would suggest the ESEE 5. That knife was designed to cater towards the survivalist.
