Any word on when these will be available in FDE?
Thanks
Anyone able to post a picture of the midlenght cut out C4 next to a DD 12" midlength FSP?
Digging up a dusty thread here because I've run into an issue.
I ordered the carbine cutout rails a couple weeks ago, not initially realizing I had to remove the handguard cap. I'm usually a hands-on guy, but something about messing with the FSB makes me nervous. SO then thought I could find somebody who could help me install them. Unfortunately, it turns out that nobody I've talked to wants to touch this thing.
The few gunsmiths around here say you can't just eliminate the handguard cap without replacing it with a shim. They also say you can't move the FSB with realigning it with lasers! I thought that the FSB would line up fine since there are probably notches in the barrel from the factory.
I don't mind cutting the delta ring, but everybody refuses and they want to remove the barrel. The hardest part for me is removing the handguard cap. I lack experience and don't know if I should try removing the FSB or trying to cut the cap off in place, especially after what these guys have been saying.
I'm looking for any of the following: Someone within a few hours of a drive to help me out (preferred and willing to pay), very detailed instructions, someone to send the upper to (least preferred because I don't want my duty rifle out of commission too long).
Your gunsmiths are either retarded or too lazy to do some work.
Unpin the FSB and slide it forward, cut off the cap, and reinstall the FSB. Make sure the upper is solidly held in place when removing and driving the FSB pins back in. You don't want the upper bouncing around with each hammer strike.
Here are a couple links to threads that should help:

Know your role, and shut your mouth.
First, I'd never ever use those gunsmiths for anything...ever.
But here is a great video tutorial on how to cut off the delta ring.

As to the hand guard cap, I'd use the same method, perhaps shoving something sacrificial in between the barrel and cap just in case you get carried away with your dremel.
Once you do this, you will be stunned at how simple it is, and you will never have any respect for those "Gunsmiths" again.
1. Clear the weapon, remove the handguards.
2. Wrap the receiver behind the delta ring with a towel or tshirt to prevent scratches/ nicks.
3. Cut the Delta ring cap at 9 and 3 o'clock. When you are most of the way through, use a flat head screw driver and pop the D-ring cap off.
4. With the Delta ring spring exposed, grab it with pliers and twist it off.
5. Tap out the gas tube roll pin and remove the gas tube, if you don't want to do this, it will take you longer to make the cuts. Make cuts with a dremel or similar tool, once the cuts are most of the way through, you can use a pair of vise grips and twist them off and away from the barrel.
6. Install the rail, and you are done. Without pulling the FSB you won't have even changed your zero on the weapon.

Thanks, gentlemen, for the tips and making me check my balls. I shouldn't have let those guys make me nervous.
Stickman, I followed your instructions to the T. Worked like a charm. Thanks. You're right: those "gunsmiths" are chumps. I owe you a couple rounds if you ever pass through Chicago.
