    New Rifle..

This isn't my first AR, but it is the first one that i have put together and it has been an on going process for the better part of 3 months now. It started out as a BCM 14.5 inch middy with a battle comp 1.5, but i just wasnt crazy about the battle comp and i didnt want to waste a near 200$ compensator by cutting it off and replacing it with something else.....so i Sold the upper and replaced it with a BCM 16 inch midlength with an A2 flash hider which i like quite abit better.

I used a Doublestar stripped lower, which i know isnt the best quality, but it is what my local gun shop had in stock and i like the guys that run the place so i try to support them as much as i can. I used a Spikes lower parts kit, which to me falls into the same category as my doublestar lower, but once again that is what was in stock. I probably should have ordered a lpk, but patience got the best of me. I used some anti rotation pins becuase the pins that came with the lpk went into the lower VERY easy ( i could push them in and out with the tip of my finger no tools required) and i thought there was a chance that they might back out. I also used a spikes trigger guard which i kind of like.

I went with the magpul ACS for price and a little longer length. I am also using an Aimpoint pro with the mount that it came with. I will probably end up switching this mount to something else. It works fine , but is a tad bulky. I have an Eotech 512 on another rifle which i think i like better, but i wanted something different and i wanted the battery life from the aimpoint.

So far i have ran about 600 rounds through this and it has been flawless. I have a few other small things that i will eventually do to it but for the most part i think i am done.

Nice job! I don't think there is anything wrong with the Doublestar lower or Spikes lower parts; but that's just me. WB

Sounds like it will be a good rifle for you.

The 14.5 with the battlecomp was just too loud.....i wasnt sure if it was the barrel length or the BC or maybe the combination of the two, but i suspected the battlecomp.

This statement is completely un-scientific. I have fired many AR's in a plethora of configurations. I have tried Battle Comps, A2 flash hiders, AAC, etc... I cannot see the BC being "too loud" unless of course you are shooting without earpro.

Possibly his specific shooting environment. When shooting under covered "bench shooting" ranges with metal roofs/overhangs, brakes as you know can be WAAAAY louder than they are in the open.

I always tell guys not to ever judge a suppressor, or in this case a muzzle brake, by just using it or hearing it under one shooting environment/condition. Of course that can apply to Most anything.

I find the sideblast of a Battlecomp from a 20 inch 5.56 to be a bit worse than from an A2 birdcage. Not so much that I'd complain of the guy next to me were using one, the BC is better than other brakes I've shot or have been around. It works well enough that the minor increase in sideblast is worth it

Gunz there is no science needed and you even contradict yourself here. This is aiken to the philosophical riddle of "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" Earpro or not the 14.5 with a bc 1.5 is considerably louder than my current config or anything else i have used.....I didnt need a microphone to tell me that. Maybe to loud is subjective....what i probably should have said was it is Too loud FOR ME. I'm not saying it doesnt work or do what it is designed for, but for my purposes the blast and extra noise isnt worth it.

I also found the BC to be considerably louder than an A2, especially standing next to someone on the line using one.

That being said, it doesn't bother me at all.
