You don't want to use those gages on true 5.56 chambers (like Colt) for example because you will get false readings.
what are symptoms of improper chambers? What markings should one be looking for on the brass? Will extraction problems occur after a couple magazines or a few hundred rounds?

Send it to ADCO $30.00 to have it reamed to 5.56

Ok, I'll try and be as clear as I can. Your BM carbine is more than likely not a true 5.56, but rather .223. This is based not only on my observations but others as well.

If you inserted a .223 No Go gage and it failed then youneed to do something. In the military world when this happens you replace the barrel and recheck with the original bolt using a "FIELD" gage.

If it passes then you are good. If it fails then you replace the bolt and recheck it. It should pass.

But, since we are dealing with unknown variables here it's irrelevant. In any case if you failed with a No Go gage, then you need to replace the barrel. Or continue to shoot it until you have an issue.

Are you saying that my chamber is most likely "correct" (as in 5.56), or that the NOGO failure is most likely correct (as in, "your 223 Rem chamber is long on headspace")? My understanding is that closing on a NOGO isn't necessarily a danger sign, but closing on a field gauge is. Correct me if I've got that wrong.
    Thanks

Before he does that he should find out if the barrel is still worth doing it. I wouldn't do it, but then again I am a "brand" snob and only use quality stuff on my builds.

Well I don't what to say then. You said it has 240 rounds through it, yet you said it was checked and closed on a No Go gage. So I guess I am lost at this point. Keep shootin' until something happens I guess.

What is wrong with Field gauge checking my existing barrel, if that's good enough for checking a new barrel? Also, what is the possible downside of reaming for 5.56, if I choose to go that route?

This is only what I've heard. I haven't had this happen (though I've only tried XM193), so take it for what it's worth.

Look for gas staining on the case and popped primers. You'll know if a primer has popped because it'll generally get jammed somewhere that will cause a malfunction. Worst case is having a cartridge that is overcharged and having it blow up the case and possibly break the bolt.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.
