I understand that position. I'm a guitar amp "snob" myself, and a builder/pro tech, and I could spend ALL my time going on to those forums and criticizing the mass-produced corporate turds that people waste their money on, and why this or that amp is going to fail, sound like crap, etc.
But not everyone out there is looking for the absolute best thing money can buy, they just want something that works for their needs. That's where I am with this AR. I'm not going to a war zone, I'm not going to shoot competitively, just iron sights (for now), paper targets, and some plinking on occasion. Just fun.
The point of my OP is, is this thing going to blow up in my face? The fact that I might have a 223 Rem chamber is useful information. What someone thinks of this company or that, or my "local bubba" gunsmith, is not. The fact that "bubba" isn't an AR expert is why I'm on here, at least in part.
So, what's my best next step? Is there any easy way to tell if my bbl is from the "mislabeled" period of BM? Can anybody here tell from a photo? Should I get a "civilian" 223 Rem field gauge, and just avoid 5.56N? Is the (partial?) flattening of my primers even a bad sign at all, or is it a Federal ammo "soft primer" thing?
