    MK19 Parts kit

Just had a question about the legality of owning a parts kit(I'm assuming it's complete, just needs assembly) for a MK19. Can civilians own this if it's not assembled? Can it be sold without an FFL? What would the market be like for one of these? Price?

Edit: The kit has everything but the receiver.

I don't think it would be legal for civilian ownership with the intent to assemble, its an automatic destructive device Post-86 and would have to be manufactured... To be honest I don't think there is even a section on the ATF paperwork for such a device to be transferred to an individual. It would have to be Manufactured by a Class 2 manufacturer and then I would assume it would only be available to Class 3 FFL/ SOT's with an L.E. Demo letter... Do you know of one for sale? I've never heard of anyone owning a MK19 before. However, I could be wrong...

I think owning just a parts kit is legal as long as the main registered receiver plate was not present... similar to owning an old MG-42 kit with the receivers cut in half and a section missing

Just keep it in the armory, don't bother taking it home. No market on a Mk19 parts kit. All it will do is raise eyebrows.

LE Agencies...hell even soldiers and Marines in Iraq post-2007 don't use Mk19s.

I hope you're not implying that I would consider stealing something. I have no idea where it is at, just heard about one that came up for sale, so I was curious about .civ ownership. I've always thought these were very cool. I can't imagine a LE agency needing a FA 40mm grenade launcher, and I'm 99% certain that the .mil is currently using them.

Following the rationale I have read here then it would also be illegal to purchase an M16 parts kit, or even a Romanian AK parts kit. So the anwwer is NO it is not illegal. Without a receiver the sum of the parts is just that- a pile of parts.

I hope its not illegal. I got a German MP43, complete, and original, parts kit sitting right here at my house. I been thinkin bout posting it on the EE for someone who might use it.

Yup, no receiver, no problem. There are dealers out there that own them, the last kit I saw was around 10k.

Thanks for the intelligent replies. I can get a smoking deal on this so I think I'm going to do it.

I do not know how real it is, but I believe there are a few pre 86 MK19s.

Here is a thread with one up for sale @ 450,000$
