My First Build Specs. Could use your opinion.

FOR CLARITY: THIS BUILD WILL BE TRIAL AND ERROR. I will use it to figure out what I want in my rifle. It may be expensive, but I'm also not extremely picky.

So this will be my first ever AR-15 build. I don't mind my DPMS AP4 Carbine, but I want something of my own. For now I will just be building off of my AP4, and eventually have a new rifle. So far this is what I have in mind, all brought together in about 2 hours to start. Please take a look, criticize me! Any suggestions as to what you'd do different? Parts missing? Maybe suggestions of another manufacture.

YHM Lower Complete Group - I want to try the stripped one, but I wouldn't know where to start... I'd probably install a Timney trigger, but what about the mag release and take down pins???

Noveske Upper - I was looking at the BCM ones, and would have done that, but it's out of stock for awhile it seems.

    Noveske Bolt

    BCM Charge Handle

DD Stripped Barrel - I figured I'd best but it stripped cause I don't want extra front sights layin around.

DD Rail System - I've never ever worked with a free float rail before, and I'm kinda nervous about it. From what I know you don't need an end cap on it?

DPMS Mid Length Gas Tube - It's cheap, but what's the difference in the higher end ones??
    http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=4...TUBE_FOR_AR_15

I need to find a gas block, but I have no idea where or what to start looking for... :/

As for the muzzle brake, I have a few coming in so what ever one I like I'll just purchase another one.

    Thanks in advance!!

Personally I would skip the YHM Lower and pick up a stripped from Areo Precision (great quality and can be found for a nice price). Pick up a quality LPK (lower Parts Kit) from Daniel Defense and a stock from BCM. That would save you a little cash I think and most likely build you a better quality lower.

AS for the DPMS Mid Length Gas Tube, other would know better but I believe they gas tubes are it bit over sized. I'd stick with BCM. I would be concerned with saving a few bucks on a relatively inexpensive part that play such a big roll in the operation of your rifle.

    good luck and enjoy...

Yeah, I was a little skeptical on the YHM Complete Lower, but I couldn't think, to save my life, where to look for all the lower parts. Of course it would be a "lower parts kit". One of the gun stores just down the road actually has the full DD LPK for $99. I'll probably run pick that up this weekend.

Ya know, I might just check out BCM's upper and bolts, but they seem to be out of stock most the time. But i'll check out Areo Precision!

You can get DD barrels with low pro gas blocks factory installed. Skip the YHM complete lower and put your own together. Its not hard, rewarding, and quite a bit of fun. Check out some youtube vids if you are a visual learner.

I will for sure. Thanks, I might practice on my AP4 with that DD LPK.

Delete all your ideas of DPMS and YHM crap. Just buy an LMT lower with standard trigger and standard stock. Otherwise their SOPMOD stock is badass if you have the extra money.

If you buy a DD barrel, you can usually get it with the gas block and tube.

    Everything else is pretty solid.

Or just get a LMT complete lower and be GTG, I'm seeing them for $305, and list price is just $330.

If you had to build it yourself the DD parts kit ($80) and one of many mil-spec stock kits (BCM, or DSG MOE kit $70 with mil-spec tube, etc)
With typical Aero lower ($80) that puts you at $230-250.

Or get Grant's LPK and upgrade to your heart's content!

While at it, just get a DD or BCM semi complete barrel/FSB/gastube, etc. :-)

That'd be nice, but after shipping wouldn't that just be about the same as $99? haha maybe maybe not?

I really really like their stuff, but I'm not sure if I want to spend half the budget on the lower. HA! Maybe for my next one I'll factor that in. I'm probably just going to go with a MagPul stock anyways. I'm sure I have one around the garage.

Pardon my newbieness, but will those barrels work with their free float rail without to much tinkering?

Where can I get one of these Areo Precision lowers?? I can't find them at all!! I can find plenty of reviews, and I did find one store, but it was just uppers and other misc parts.
