That wasn't his point, however. He was talking about checking your gun. You definitely do not have to check your gun at every military installation.
I'm not sure what the restrictions/limitations are. Occasionally I've been selected for a random vehicle search, it's a common practice by the SPs providing base access control. I've never had a firearm in my vehicle, but I'm pretty sure if I had my AR in a case in the trunk, or a loaded sidearm in my glove box I would be in violation of base/federal policy. Next time I forget my CAC card and have to stop for a pass (happens about once a month, despite my best planning efforts ), I'll ask the SPs.
