Bushmaster did manufacture a true Mil-Spec M-4 carbines using Colt's TDP which Bushmaster received during a contract with the US Govt.
Bushmaster only got one contract for the M4 because apparently the TDP was improperly released to them, and Colt threatened to sue the US Govt. if Bushmaster got any more contracts.
Bushmaster had already manufactured about 200 more Mil-Spec M-4's using Colt's TDP for a second contact with the U.S.M.C but the contract was canceled do to the threaten lawsuit.
Bushmaster sold those true Colt TDP spec guns to law enforcement agencies. A small number were sold to civilians with semi-auto fire control groups.
I was able to buy a semi-auto version and it has been flawless.

My question to most buyers of AR's today is why settle from subpar equipment when you can buy quality barrels, bcg's, uppers, and even complete rifles from Daniel Defense, BCM, or even Colt at a reasonable prices now? WW should do market research before ONE guns leaves their factory.
Directly from Bushmaster at time of purchase, at that time I did some brief research into the claim that the M-4's were built from the Colt TDP and did find information which collaborated the claim of a canceled military contract to what I posted previously. Since its been so many years past I do not have the reference material I found to post links.
Unless Bushmaster totally bullshitted me that the M-4 left over I purchased was from the canceled contract then its shame on me. But I have had perfect function and she is still rolling strong after all these years so matter what her history I have a solid and reliable carbine.

Work will be performed in Windham, Maine, and is expected to be completed by Nov. 20, 2007. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This was a sole source contract initiated on Feb. 11, 2005. The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, Rock Island, Ill., is the contracting activity (W52H09-07-C-0086).
Lots more info on Google.
I did a search on 'FED-LOG" 6+ years ago IIRC and found an NSN for a buttstock made by BM but it had been removed from the system.

I have a funny they would discover that they'd sell a shit-ton of them even if they do scrimp on stuff. At least if they aren't looking to sell to the mil or leo. There's a reason there are more sub-par AR parts and rifle outfits around than there are "good" one's. It's the same way with anything, I can almost assure you your computer and/or your car is full of stuff that is sub-grade unless you move in those circles and know what is what, for example. Sad but true.
I sent them an email too... directing them to this thread specifically to clear the air....looks like no response...another blown opportunity by Shrubmaster/ Windham...
No good PR for them, guess they will continue on the same road, but this time I seriously doubt it will work! Looks like they are committingagain!
only in america. a proven and successful businessman starts an american firearms company, employing out of work americans producing a wholly american made product and the dogpile starts.....
just because you don't like them doesn't mean a lot of people won't and a lot more people will be owning black rifles which makes them that much more popular - increased business for accessory manufacturers also.
my point being, while obama kills the shuttle program putting 9,000 nasa employees out of work and an additional 23,000 support industry employees, Dick Dyke steps up.
what am i missing here?
For one, Obama didn't kill the shuttle program, time did, as in the end of the program's service life and obsolescence killed the shuttle program but whether or not the CINC is doing something right or wrong is meaningless to the discussion at hand. As for Bushmaster, what people are saying here is this, the boys in Wyndham have the opportunity to correct the problems of their past and create and sell a first class product but instead it appears that they only intend to run the same old play from a tired outdated playbook. Going this route contributes nothing new of value to the industry, thus the dismay and dissapointment expressed in this thread.
