    Just sayin'
I found this on one of the 1911 forums....

I wanted to let everyone here know that I am suspending the Vickers Tactical Nighthawk Custom 1911 as of March 1, 2008 - meaning that Nighthawk will no longer accept orders for pistol after that date; only the pistols ordered by then will be built.

The primary reason for this is I feel the pistol has become too expensive - paying over $3000 for a pistol that I designed and is built to my specs BUT a pistol I don't personally work on is unreasonable in my opinion.

I am not sure what If anything I will do in the custom 1911 pistol realm - I will however continue to offer 1911 operators courses as well as 1911 builders courses.

I would definitely get you gun and shoot that sucker before I worried about it. If it wears later on you can have NH refinish it in diamond black, but it definitely is not going to be a requirement. My new enforcer is being refinished in melonite which is what NH is switching too.
Thanks that makes me feel better. Really thank you.

    Here it is with questions

What I don't understand and over looked in my haste is the following on the Nighthawk Talon is the grips are at least on current production guns hex head, the back of the slide is checkered and this ones not and how low the checkering is on the grip strap. I believe I may have a problem. Please Nighthawk guys check out attached photo.

Please quit worrying. I understand this is an expensive pistol but chill out! Nighthawk is just like most other semi custom shops in that they have an ala carte menu.
Some Nighthawks have hex grip screws... mine has flathead screws. I prefer them because if they need tightening in the field, I am more likely to have something straight to work on them than a allen wrench. If I remember correctly in the Nighthawk catalog (which you need to have a copy of) they sell Hex head screws very reasonably.
Not all Nighthawks have checkering on the back of the slide. That costs extra if you want it. It looks cool, but adds nothing as far as functionality to the pistol.
Checkering on the frontstrap can be done in a lot of different ways. It appears that the triggerguard was undercut and the original owner wanted a little smoothness near that area.
I have had several semi-custom 1911's but right now, only have a Nighthawk. These things are expensive and as a result you kind of think of them as more than pieces of metal. They almost become like kids. Folks are VERY protective of their kids.(see where I am going with this?) A person tends to like what he has and other things can tend to be a POS. NOW...I have a Nighthawk 10-8. It has 13,000 rds thru it with NO malfunction of ANY kind (pistol, mag, or ammo related) As a result, I trust this pistol.
All things mechanical can (will) fail. If I had had problems off the bat with this pistol, I might not have it right now. However; In my close circle of friends, I have two that have sent pistols back to Nighthawk to have additional work done on (changing sights, refinishing with Diamond black... etc) I think it is important to note that all work done by them has been top notch and done in a timely manner, for a reasonable cost.
Remember, you have entered an emotionally charged catagory of firearm. GET IT IN YOUR HANDS AND FORM YOUR OWN OPINION. If one person says it is a POS that does not make it true any more than if one person tells you it is the best in the world.
From the pic I say you did good. This is a good duty gun, has everything you need but not a lot of fluff. (honestly it has a lot of the same specs as my 10-8 which is not made anymore).

Thank you. You have cleared up somethings and now feel pretty swell about my new Nighthawk. Thanks again. I was getting worried. Which is what I seem to do best unfortunately.
