Hey guys,
Tough times are forcing me to look into selling my Surefire K can. Can anyone give the procedures for doing this properly? I have several suppressors but have never tried to sell one personally.
Thanks for the help in advance,
Wally

State laws may very, but from a federal level it's the same as when you bought it.
If selling to an individual in-state, no FFL is required, otherwise you need an FFL/SOT in the purchasers home state to do the transfer.
Easiest way is to get an in-state buyer, fill out form4 and send tax and shit to ATF. Once approved the buyer can take delivery. Buyers typically pay up front.
actually, that is not quite right. it does not have to go to a class 3 FFL/SOT in your state first, that is a mis-conception. if it is being sold to someone out of state, it can be transfered to that persons FFL in there state. make sure that FFL is liscensed to handle suppressors. Since it is one a Form 4 right now, there is a $200 tax to transfer it onto the FFL license. Then there is a second $200 transfer for the buyer to get it from the dealer. this double tax make suppressors not as good a seller to out of state folks unless you really drop the price, or pay the first tax.
Something else to remember, according to the NFA laws, you do not have to be 21 to purchase a NFA item from an individual, that only applies when buying from a dealer. so if someone under 21, but above 18 in your state is interested, you can legally sell to them, with completion of appropriate paperwork ofcourse.
but you are in Az aren't you.....should not be to hard to sell it in this state since we are very class III friendly around here. Which model do you have and what are you asking?

OP,
I sold a suppressor to someone here in AZ. We simply did a Form 4 from me to him, sent in the trust paperwork and waited it out. Was about 80 something days, IIRC.

The big problem you are going to run into is this.
Unless you find a local buyer you can transfer it to directly there will be TWO NFA taxes required (your to an out of state dealer and then that dealer to the buyer).
Obviously with the double tax the buyer could actually buy a new surefire from his dealer cheaper than yours.
Double taxes don't matter much on things like $10,000 transferable machine guns, but on suppressors it kills most deals.

Yep, I would try to do it in state. You could PM a mod and ask if it would be OK to post an FYI in the regional section (doubtful).
One of the things I must say I do like about TOS is the ability to post and search (via hometown forum) LOCAL equipment exchange sales.

I just bought a used M4 2000 Mod 08 from a buddy because it was in great shape and he gave me one hell of a deal. What made the deal attractive was that we only have to do one stamp. If I had to pay two stamps I would have been better off paying a little more and buying new.
So yes as others have suggested, try to find someone local or in state, it will make the deal more attractive to a perspective buyer.

The other benefit of keeping it local is that the buyer can go shoot with you and use the can when you're there while the feds are dicking around.

Thanks for all the responses. Seems like taking a bath out of state or doing only slightly better in state.
Model is the older Surefire 556K with under 500 rounds for those that asked.
I appreciate all the help.
