Pretty much. You have to discount it enough to make someone care to buy it used. With the tax on it and the wait many want new.

Called a local shop in AZ. that works with C3 stuff and was told even to consign it, its worth around $100-200 based off it being used and the transfers. Paid $1285.00 several years back. Yikes. I see no reason to sell at this point other than a trade or something similar. Thanks Wally

Wait, what? They told you your SureFire can was only worth $100-200 dollars?

That's because they want to give you $100-$200 for it and sell it for $600-$700. That can is definitely worth more than $100-$200, I would not do business with that dealer if it were me.

    Just my $0.02

That's crazy. Sounds like someone in the shop wants to buy a nice used SF can for cheap.

Before I bought my first can, I specifically asked my C3 dealer about selling used cans. He stated that you usually would have to sell a used can at around a 50% markdown to move it. If it was a hard to get model and/or in great shape you could get a bit more for it.

That's what I was thinking. The tax stamps will dig into any resale value, but not like that. I would be very leery of anything else they have to say in the future.

    I'll take it for $300

That might be what they want to pay you for it, but it's still worth a lot more than that even including transfers.

If it's in great condition, you should be able to get at least $600+ in-state and probably $500 out of state.

Another thing to think of. I've read that the canceled tax stamps off nfa items can be worth a good amount of money if you do sell the suppressor and have the no longer valid paperwork. Not talking face value or anything that high but it can help offset some of the loss.

What would that stamp be useful for? It is proof of having paid a tax to transfer a particular serialized item from one specific entity to another.

It's not worth anything to anyone but that recipient, and
only if they own that item.

Actually, people have sold cancelled tax stamps online to stamp collectors. the are relatively rare in that forum.
