I've tried wire pull gel, water, and white lithium grease. The grease lasts longer and you can leave it in the suppressor without corrosion worries.

Video is a fairly poor medium for comparison of any sort of sound. Your standard microphones that come with cameras are far more appropriate for recording voices than extremely loud sounds like gunshots.

I would also think (but I could be wrong) that if you want a more accurate comparison you would run all of the 22's on the same host, all the 9mm on the same host, all the 40's on the same host, all the 45's on the same host, etc.
ETA: I can't remember now if there were comparisons of more than one can in the same caliber, my point may not apply.
