No argument here!
Well, the 417 will be limited to 2 (yes, 2 rounds) or 10 round magazines for us lowly American civilians.![]()
I bet high capacity 417 mags will push $120 and be extremely rare if they're only available through agencies on contract.
If I hadn't given up on HK years ago, I'd be mad.
EDIT: Oh, and it's still open to speculation if the 416 will even use high capacity magazines. They look unchanged, but the 10 round magazine they use sure looks like an HK home brew to me. I wouldn't be surprised if HK modified the uppers to only accept their 2 and 10 round magazines.![]()

This was posted by a guy on HK Pro that reviewed the government approval file.
If HK actually is doing this, the 416 will be just as big of a flop as the SL8.Well, the BKA (that's basically the German version of the American FBI) document clearly states both rifles are
--New products for the civillian market (and not civillian models of HK416/417).
--The rifles do not have parts that are interchangeable with HK416/417 and AR15/M16.
HK certainly has perfected the method of suicide by incompetence. So long for Americans getting a 416 if this is true.![]()

You're exactly right and that is exactly what happened. The XM8 was never the KE part of the OICW no matter what anyone says. It was nothing more than a repackaged version of the G36, slapped together by HK to try and piggy back on the OICW and weasel its way into a no bid contract to replace the AR15

What Happened to the American dream? It came true. You're looking at it.
We will see when we get our paws on these. It would be extremely bothersome to have parts with different measurements/diameters etc. from the current ones.
This is since there are other AR15 type rifles (Sabre Defence, Oberland Arms) on the market that do accept all factory after market parts and accessories, that could be straight from military weapons or intended for military weapons.
I believe the statures of the Kriegswaffen list only specify that the parts used in the manufacture are not "military" parts.
Well then, if the rifle is said to be a civilian version, is approved as such by the BKA and the factory says the parts are for the civilian version....even though they might be identical to the "military" parts...
My bet is that these will accept suitable after market parts and accessories.
Possibly, but the comment saying that none of the parts are interchangeable with the AR15 scares me. They also said it is in no way a civilian 416, but an entirely new firearm.
EDIT: Another HK Pro member just posted a more direct translation and it seems it may just be regarding full auto parts. I'm crossing my fingers, but being HK I'm not holding my breath.

This is what I was thinking as well.
I have first hand experience on the German gun laws and particularly the Kriegswaffen list.
We could not import our Colt AR-15A3 Tactical carbine for the IWA show, to exhibit our sound suppressors on, since it had features of the military weapons, must have been the bolt etc / or that it was directly on the Kriegswaffen list, since it also does not convert into a select fire weapon easily. In the mean while, there were a dozen stands that had AR-15 rifles from other brands.
We do have select fire HK weapons, but buying a few of these, could help our participation in those European nations that do not allow the temporary import of military weapons.
I can't remember exact date but I think it was late last year.
