It is true Colt never actualy said they won't sell to civilians but they make every attempt not to. I was recently at a gun shop in Nevada and over heard this conversation: A customer asked the owner( He's ex military and deals with Colt on a regular basis) if he could order a Colt H-bar A-2 and the owner told him sorry Colt does not like to sell to civilians and they would only fill his order if he was law enforcement or military. I heard him suggest Rock River or Bushmaster because they would get him what he wanted. Nuf said.
Umm no.
I'm pretty sure HK never made any official statements saying they were not selling to civilians.
Check the HK europe/german website. 75% of their catalog is here in the USA and what isnt is banned by law. The SL8 and USC is HK's attempt to make civilian products.
So really, tell me where HK said no civilian sells because that has NEVER happened. That is nothing more than errornet stupidity

What Happened to the American dream? It came true. You're looking at it.
So, please tell me when did H&k say they WERE going to sell the 416/417 to civilans shooters in the U.S.
Yawn.....
NOT in training for combat deployment.
IMHO, competition is a good thing.
I too imagine HK will command a premium price, but maybe this will lower the prices on the other piston uppers.
Of course it could just mean they RAISE their prices some too, if HK sets an ultra high price on theirs.
That sounds more like the fact that the DEALER couldn't get Colt products on a regular basis or that BM and RRA provided a higher profit margin for him. That's a regular occurance with smaller locally owned shops that don't have large local contracts or don't move much product.
As for your issues with HK if they don't work for you then fine but you can't deny the fact that they make outstanding products. I'm not saying they are the absolute best at everything but there is a medium between the best and absolute crap. I also doubt that the HK416 will go for $4000... $1500-2000 is likely though given that is about the asking price for a "semi-custom" DI AR. Hopefully a HK 417 will go for under $2500 as that's what I'm more interested in personally.
To each his own I can live without HK anyway.Though good for them one more "black gun" on the market . Kudos!
