There going to have to be something done on the barrel ban here real soon.

One Company is about to default on their Govt and military contracts because they cant get the spare barrels for their latest and greatest belt fed MG thru customs and to their customers. Seems there is no exception for Govt and Military purchases
Life is too short to deal with Blonde women, or carbine barrels over 10.5 inches

The modified g3 mags were for proof of concept/ RDT&E efforts only. These mags did not hold the bolt open on the last rd.

    I'd like to see a 25 &/or 30rd version also.
Dano, we've heard a fair amount I'd say about the 416 from legitimate 'end users' but not much about the 417.

What is YOUR opinion of the weapon, assuming you have some trigger time on it, or even from an engineering standpoint.

While a 416 would be nice the price estimates I've seen just don't make it worth it compared to other whole guns or DI uppers. That said, I ain't holding my breath on them either!

The 417 is essentially a larger 416 with what ATB a better mag. Interestingly they use a larger receiver extension tube too vs. SR25/AR10/etc. which use the AR15 size. I don't think there are enough out there to get a good statistical sample of relevant characteristics

Not enough time on one to say .. evaluate cold bore shift, etc.

I would purchase an 18" collapse stocked version if it were available.

Just a mag that works will put it ahead of the competition & and the adjust valve for a can is nice.
Thank you sir! While i certainly find the 416 'interesting' I've been waiting a LONG time for a good 7.62 piece, and it MAY be the answer.

Better start eating the Ramen noodles now I reckon

Does this mean that aftermarket AR15 stocks (like, oh, I don't know... the UBR?) will not work with the 417? I guess what I'm asking is, by "larger" do you mean a larger diameter or a longer length? If it's just the length I think it could work, but if the diameter is larger, probably not.

That seems like a pretty easy problem to get around from an engineering standpoint. How much larger is the tube? Would it be as simple as swapping it out for a milspec tube, or is the entire thing proprietary?

What was your impression of the magazines? I asked the HK rep at SHOT if I could stomp one like we were doing to the PMAGs, but he just gave me a look that in itself said "that was a stupid question."

Those were out 45 years ago, and are made by several other companies. Is it just me or are there others of you that just don't get it. Some people hold this 416 in such high regard that you would think it was the second coming Jesus Christ. Of course I also think that an engineer at HK could crap out a turd and some would say, oh this turd is the best weapon of war ever! And future weapons would do a piece on it, and the host would say look, it even smells when you turn it upside down! Wow! the U.S. Army needs this smelly turd by HK.

Any new gun that hits the market is good for us. But "This will bring shock waves through the industry"?? I'm not saying that I will never buy one but what I will say is, long live Colt, LMT, POF, LWRC, and great American companys.

Ok, you can beat me up now.
Preach on, brother! There is something inherently wrong with our military weapons being produced by foreign manufacturers, even if they are allies, and even if they are physically being made in this country. There are certain things you just don't out-source...like your standard small arms. We have the best engineers in the world. We can land on the moon, design the F-22 Raptor, beat the Japanese at their own game with companies like Intel, Apple, and Dell, but we can't even design a rifle? I find that hard to believe.
