[QUOTE=Treehopr;1074076]I tried them, got away from them and came back around to them.

The 2 big reasons were it makes it easier for me to run lights/lasers with a VFG because it provides better control of the weapon when I have to compromise my support grip to manipulate the switches and having taken Kyle's Steetfighter class I saw the value of using it for unconventional or asymetrical shooting positions.

Whereas most instructors teach positions as a compromise between stability & mobility; Kyle teaches that shooting positions are a compromise between ability to shoot the target and exposure from the enemy's ability to shoot you.

+1 on that. Kyle's classes have convinced me of the utility of a VFG on a tactical rifle for those very 2 reasons. Not so much on a pure shooting competition rifle where they mostly serve to get in the way.

I was planning on trying to shave one down, fill the gaps with epoxy, etc. but decided it was too much effort.
I've done two classes now without a VFG/handstop using the Troy TRX tubes. While it was fine, I am getting to the point now where I noticed difficulty controlling the rifle during multiple targets and multiple shots.

Larue provided a pair of Larue handstops (schwag) at the EAG class I was at and I put them on the rail. They feel fine, and I haven't done a class with them yet, but I think that a stubby VFG would really shine in certain unconventional positions where I was having a hard time without a VFG/handstop.

Rob, have you attached a TD stubby to any of your VTAC/TRX Extreme tubes using the rail segments? If so, was there an uncomfortable gap? I'm assuming that the Magpul RVG also leaves a gap.

I think one of my Review guns had a TD on it with the rail section... or the Magpul... I'll have to look. I think there's a gun in the safe setup that way.

Well, I just spoke to another forum member who tried the TD Stubby on a TRX Extreme and didn't like it due to the gap that was left.

Doesn't Kyle Lamb use the TD VFGs on his VTAC Extreme rail?

The Magpul RVG is looking like a cheap experiment....

    Hey Rob_S...

Should Impact Weapons Components make a stubby VFG with a watertight storage area or a AFG type with watertight storage area MOUNT-N-SLOT, or both...

I can do without the storage altogether. I'd rather see the VFG. But I don't use, and don't like, the AFG.

One of the cool things about the Magpul VFGs is that they are inexpensive and hollow so they can be cut down to even smaller size for those that want them.

and it's also a relatively simple matter to create a plug for them. Might not be pretty but it can be functional.

Interesting... i've been thinking of trying a VFG for the first time
just to see if it's something i like or dislike lately.

I have magpul handguards so torn between a MVG or trying an AFG.
I'm still semi-new to the AR platform so i don't have a "style" as of yet.

Guess i should watch EE for someone who tried but it just wasn't for them.

Thanks for the great read guy's lots of pros and cons but mostly
seems pros here so wouldn't hurt to try.

    I concur.
Except that it isn't that I dislike the AFG, but rather find more utility in a VFG.

I would really like to see what Surf made.

Not sure if its not my place to post this, apologies to Surf if not. This video on Surf's YouTube page has a good view of a modified AFG, tho I don't know if it's the finished version:
