    Guidance for first build.

Hello to all. I've been browsing through this forum for a few weeks now, soaking in all the information I can. My question is this, what is the most logical approach in building a custom M4? What pieces should one buy first?

The reason I want to build this riffle is because I would like to give it to my father as a gift from the heart, something that has more meaning and value than going out and just purchasing one at the store.

Pardon my ignorance on the matter(s) of building the gun, but any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

start with the lower, because that has to be purchased or at least shipped to a FFL. everything else can be ordered and shipped to you.

oh and everybody is going to ask so i might as well start it off. what do you want this rifle to do? that will make a difference (obviously) in what parts you buy.

I was thinking the same thing, based on the reason you mentioned. I'm leaning toward one from Daniel Defense.

I haven't quite narrowed that down yet. I just want to build the best gun I can/is possible.

Best is relative to purpose. You cannot have best without defining a use/role.

You're right. I should define an intended purpose.

    OK...

Are you advertising for them, or asking our opinion of them, or both?

It's main purpose would be to do recreational shooting like in the High Power Rifle Competitions.

I don't really have one. I don't have any kids and the house is paid off, so I don't really have any major monthly expenses.
