    IDPA Triple Crown

I thought I'd post a link to this here.

    From the "about" page

The IDPA Triple Crown is a sanctioned event consisting of three seperate matches which can be shot by individuals to gain points as well as personal recognition for performance as in any IDPA event, but also introduces the concept of Team Competition to the sport as an additional way to be recognized for your performance in competitive shooting.

The first match is to be held on July 30th, 2011 at the Universal Shooting Academy located in Frostproof, Florida which has been recently expanded to accomidate major competition and training events from many of the post popular shooting discliplines.

IDPA has grown based on the core of local clubs where members enjoy the comaraderie from shooters with diverse backgrounds. The sport has always recognized shooters individual performance based on common criteria for divisions and categories. However, the growth of the sport brought a new point based system that help shooters win a place on the World Championship match roster. Florida, being the third largest state for IDPA clubs as well as the host of the first World Championship match has a large base of members that would like additional opportunities to compete in sanctioned matches.

Additionally, there is a potential to double up on the opportunity to recognize more shooters as competitors while benefiting the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. The thought in doing so, the sport recognizes those Americans who have given their all in the service of our country while at the same time recognizing more shooters using a new concept of competition. It also gives Sponsors a chance to participate in a charitable event.

There is a core of regional competitors who travel and regularly appear at matches both as volunteers and competitors. So the concept of Team Competition was created in order for local clubs and organizations to pool groups of individual competitors to create Teams that compete throughout a three match series and at least 30 stages. The matches will be held over the course of a 12 month period.

The scoring system uses a point system taken from the placement of individuals at each match. The point system awards points in a manner that gives weight to shooters from entry level classifications in each division as well as those shooters in Expert and Master Class divisions. This means that a club submitting names for a team will benefit by having a mix of shooters in every classification and division for the best opportunity to win the Triple Crown Trophy. This trophy is awarded every year to the team earning the most points at the completion of the three sanctioned matches. The award would encompass a Club Trophy with smaller cups awarded to each team member who participated in the competition.

The points system is based on a simple method of inverting the placement of shooters in their respective division and classification. So if there are 10 shooters in a single division, (say SSP Marksman), the 1st place shooter wins 10 points for his team. The 3rd Place shooter wins 8 points and the last place shooter wins 1 point.

Teams are formulated by any IDPA club or group of members putting forward a list of names of registered individual shooters at each match in groups of 5 and paying the Team Entrance fee.

One shooter is needed for each of the 5 Divisions. By keeping the number at 5 shooters per team, the club is forced to use strategy in the team selection. A club may send more than one team in fact for the event to be a success, this is highly desirable. Each match, the team members may change over the course of a year but the Team Name or Number must remain the same.

The Match will be held on Neutral Territory, that being Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, Florida. The range has over 30 bays and facilities to support additional side matches and practice.

The Teams can find sponsors (industry or local businesses) to pay for the Team Entry Fee (as a charitable donation), or the club may pay the fee. The Fee for the teams pay for the team awards and 100% of the proceeds remaining are sent to the SOWF. The cost to put on the match is covered by the individual shooters.

In order to increase participation by the local clubs, teams with Safety Officers receive an extra 2 points for each member who works the match. In this case, each team competitor has 2 opportunities to win an award for participating and by working the event; you add points and increase your odds.

At the end of the year, a Trophy is awarded the top three performing teams for the Triple Crown.

I think the team aspect of this match has a lot of potential to be very interesting. However, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE PART OF A TEAM TO SHOOT THE MATCH! You can treat this match exactly like any other sanctioned match and shoot it by yourself without being part of a team.

The facility at Universal is literally world-class as it's where they are holding the IDPA world match later this year.

Another bump with great news from Bravo Company!

There will be a side match at this event where you get to shoot a BCM Carbine for a chance to win a plaque, and each entry gets you a chance to win the rifle in a raffle at the end of the match.
