    x300 light output question?

Picked up an surefire x300 on Friday from my local rep to put on my 11.5 build I'm doing. The box list the light as 110 lumens, but surefires site says 170 max! I called them today and was told that they have 2 versions floating out there and that I couldnt get it upgraded. My question is should I take it back and then try and find one that says 170 on the box or keep the one I have?

The 110 version is plenty bright, and frankly it is not the lumens output that is as important as the light pattern or beam focus. The 110 version is plenty bright for just about any intended application. I would only worry about a 170 if I was going to be identifying targets at 100 yards plus, and even then, these lights are really intended for HD or under 100 yards. Anything further out and you need to go IR or NV in combination with a magnified optic.

You'll be fine. Maybe move it to a handgun and get a higher output light for your AR if you think 110 lumens won't be enough for your application.

Surefire said to return it and buy another with the 170 rating. I purchased it for my 11.5 build and wanted the max lumens possible but the light had to have a small bezel to not cover up the front sight. Moving it to my handguns would open up another bag of worms, as all my Glocks use M3s/M6s and been very happy with them.

Here is a pic of the build.

If it's for a CQB rifle, 110 will be plenty. Go into a dark room with white walls and then turn on the light, chances are you'll be temporarily "blinded" from how bright just 110 lumens is. When your talking about lights in small spaces, more lumens isn't always better.

I have one of each. After comparing them side by side in the dark, I have no desire whatsoever to switch out the older one.

I can agree with the OP. I use two TLR-1's, the one on my rifle is 160lumens, I have an older TLR-1 on my shotgun, its around 110. At night, even in a closed room, the 160 is amazing, it doesnt blind at all.

The one the shotgun sports, will illuminate the target, thats about it.

I would rather be SURE than take chances, especially when it comes to something as serious as protecting your home.

The TLR-1 is really not comparable to the X300--again, it is not the lumens but the focus, etc. of the beam that determines visible intensity.
My 110 lumens X300 seems far brighter and more focused than many lights that are 200 lumens+. Also, keep in mind that you need to test your light with fresh batteries as ones that have been depleted will drop the lumen output of your light (usually sometime after an hour's use).

Why cause it Streamlight and not Surefire? Or am I mistaken. The TLR-1 is a 100 yard capable light EASILY.
