500 yard steel shooting and some vapor trails.

I posted a comment on this guys page a while back. Him and I had some similar stocks on our rifles. He sent me a msg saying he was coming to town, so I told him bring his rifle! The 1000 yard range was two far away, so we went to http://www.topgunshootingclub.com/ and dinged some steel for a while. I think he got some pretty vapor trails!

    .

In both DieselGeek's and Orkan's video, I can see puffs as the bullets strike the metal targets.

In Orkan's video, I can see a distortion after the gun is fired. It looks like how hot gases make the air "wavy" above a fire or above an exhaust stack.

When I saw "vapor trails" in the Title, I thought maybe, with magnification, you might be able to see some kind of a tiny contrail and I was missing it.

So, my question is which (if either) are "vapor trails" or did I miss something?

    Thanks

I went through and removed the bickering, chest thumping, self promoting crap that seems to pollute these threads.

Warning to you culprits--knock it off, be civil and if you want to argue, do it privately.

I can see it very clear. If you look in the left hand corner when I'm shooting (AICS) and in the right hand corner when he is shooting ( GAP) It was a great day for observing them. Sometimes you could see the bullet it's self reflecting off of the sun. I also noticed a lil typo TWO should of been too far. I was going to say two hours away, but just went w/ too far instead. HERPA DERPA.

Edit: Something else I noticed later on. The Federal GMM in 7.62 x51 is much hotter than the .308 gmm in the 175g round. I could not figure out why I was shooting a lil high until I chromed the rounds at 150fps faster than the .308 gmm

What you are seeing are not vapor trails. Vapor trails are the result of moisture condensing out of the air. These bullet traces are from the disturbance of the bullet passing through the air which distorts the light

Correct. More precisely, what is seen is the wake vortex of the bullet. How we can see it is just the same light refraction phenomena that lets us see heat mirage.
