Indeed. Given the known arrangement under which FN manufactures their bolts, new-in-bag FN bolts (with NSN markings) are too good to be true as well.

Yep, makes the OP a guy trying to do right in my book since he's here asking. Last time I checked we try and not punish people for doing right.

I emailed the guy on Gunbroker and asked him about the legitimacy of the FN bolts he is selling and here is his response:

FN sells parts direct to a number of dealers and manufacturers. Furthermore, this is not an M16 part, as the bolt will function in either the AR15 or the M16, just like fire control pins, buffer tubes, upper receivers, etc. It is the carrier assembly that is specific to the M16. I did not receive these directly from FN. Also, FN is located here in SC and there is absolutely ZERO information in public hands about ANYTHING being stolen from FN, and I believe that a theft of machinegun parts from America's largest manufacturer of machineguns would at least make the local
    news

    Thanks!

That would be the dumbest thing one could do. Once they have notified you that it is stolen and you then try to sell or destroy it, you then become a subject of the investigation and subject yourself to some trouble you didn't want. It's their property, they want it back--what's to argue about?
I would not buy .gov stuff again. I already pay for it once with taxes. Screw paying for it again! And then to just have some cid guy take it away. Hell with it.

Look at it this way. Joe crack head takes your favorite AR and sells it to someone. A few weeks go by and someone is pulled over by the police and they run the serial number and find out its stolen. Are you telling me you are OK with not getting your rifle back?
Joe crackhead didn't buy me my rifle. I bought uncle Sam his rifle. I pay for 2 m16s a month roughly, or rather it sure seems like it.

Sort of my feelings on the matter moving forward. Of course, had I known it was .gov property to begin with, I never would have bought it.

I'm a small-arms repairman (Combat Arms Specialist) in the Air Force. Bolts are NOT DRMO'd in tact, at least in the AF we follow the DoD Demil manual. Any unserviceable bolts we DRMO are cut. Major components (bbls, bolts, bolt carriers, upper receivers, get cut. All other parts crushed/broken to the point they are rendered useless. DRMO then sells them as scrap steel and/or aluminum.

I may of missed it reading all of the responses to this thread, but how was this bolt confirmed as FN? I've been a gun plumber in the AF for a LONG time and I couldn't tell you a FN bolt from a Colt bolt...

I've got an email into Beryl asking if FN's business practices have changed since 2003.

A "F" mark where the "C" normally sits is considered to be FN manufacture. Something to confirm when FN responds I guess.

As for paying taxes, the last numbers I have show Uncle's replacement price on an A2 at $499.

The guy I was talking to from gunbroker is an ffl holder and he sells fn bolts. Apparently fn sells these bolts to more than just the government. Take that for what is it worth.
