As several have touched on, an SBR is good for much further out than many consider. This has lead me to make the 6920 secondary to the 6933. I consider the 6933 to be the finest rifle Colt produces.
6933
M4s/LaRue QD mount
BFG padded 2-point sling
CTR
BCM Gunfighter CH
DD AR 15 Lite 9.5 FSP rail
DD QD sling mount
PEQ-15
Troy folder
Haven't settled upon light yet. Leaning towards X300.
The M4s is mounted more toward the rear to balance the -15. Final positioning dependent upon shakedown in TNVC's Night Operators course.
BCM 16 mid gas, BCM gunfighter med latch, vtac 11 inch battle rail, battlecomp 2.0, troy flip ups, EoTech xps 2-2,aimpoint 3x in a flip to side mount, magpul afg2 ,ctr, moe pistol grip, ASAP plate ,ms2 ,rsa ,gearsector scout mount for the vtac rail, surefire m300a scoutlight, surefire Sr07 switch, pmags

I really like how I have my 6920 set up. MOE handguard, Aimpoint Micro, Troy BUIS and VTAC sling. Still waiting for some rail pieces so I can mount my light. Very simple and lightweight.

No dude is going to get shot in the chest at 300 yards and look down and say "What is that, a 3 MOA group?"
If I only had one for serious use, I'd probably choose a 14.5" from a quality manufacturer, use a 12" RIS II, Aimpoint, probably a scout light, SOPMOD stock, fixed DD front and rear buis, A2 flash hider and a short vert grip. Since it's a 14.5", I'd question whether the mid length or carbine gas system is the way to go.
Now, of my guns, my flavor of the week is an LMT mk18 on a Noveske lower, Aimpoint T1, mini scout light, SOPMOD on a Vltor A5, stubby Tango Down and a Matech and KAC folding BUIS.
Here is my choice. My present weapon. LMT Lower with Geiselle SSA trigger, BCM 14.5" middy, X300 light, Aimpoint T-1, VCAS sling. I would probably either add a 3X magnifier or a 1-4 scope of some type.

My work horse using AR is a little different from most. This rifle would be my first choice in SD/HD and it pretty much goes everywhere with me on a day to day basis. I also use it in bear country if not carrying an actual big game hunting rifle.
The one in the middle.
Spikes Lower
Jewel 2 stage trigger
Ambi safety
Ceramic coated bolt and carrier (Semi auto carrier)
Vltor A-5 with 5 oz buffer
Magpul CTR
Vltor CASV Mid length hand guard
Cut down AFG
16 inch CL barrel with 5.56 chamber, carbine gas and 1/7 twist
Adjustable gas block tuned to cycle m193 just off the deflector on 75 deg day
Troy Claymore on the muzzle
Blackhawk Xiphos at 3 O-clock
MS2 sling
4.5-14x50mm optic
A lot of you are probably scratching your heads at the optic but it works very well for me. I can run a clean ½ and ½ drill and kill critters at a pretty good distance with the setup.
I may switch the barrel to a 16 inch stainless with a chamber better configured for 75gr Secant ogive bullets. This barrel shoots 55s really well but it has never shot the heavies very well. Good enough for defensive inside 100yds but that is about it
I'd probably have to say my 12.5 SBR.
BCM 12.5 upper
MI 10in T-series
ACOG
BattleComp
Vltor A5
MagPul ACS
Its light, small, and good out to what as a civy, I think is the max distance I would have to consider threats from. I've shot out to 400 with it, and the General Populace, if SHTF, isn't as good of shooters as the majority of us who actually train and use our guns for more than just safe queens. So any farther than that, I really have no need to do anything but Cover them if they are farther than that.
So i think my goal for a rifle in this situation would be simplicity, versatility, and reliability. It would be something very similar to my current setup with the following difference : I would go from a 16" barrel to a 10.5in or a 12in barrel - better around tight spots and I dont see myself engaging something more than 100 yards out. In a shtf situation knowing when to fight and when not to fight would be key. I would keep my standard CAR hand guards. A good stock, something like the ti-7 i have now or a SOPMOD. A decent 2 point sling. A small flash light attached to the handguard . My problem comes when I'm an selecting optic, I see the utility in a variable power scope , not only can i engage targets at various distances but i can ID threats from far out as well. again i think avoiding trouble would be key. However all those buttons and nobs could break, get caught on stuff etc. So maybe a low power ACOG or a variable power ACOG , however from the few experiences ive had they leave a lot to be desired at night or when shooting from darkness in light. Thoughts?
