Where I think people miss the boat on the ballistics equation is that if I shoot someone at 15 feet, I really need them to stop what they're doing, lie down, and reconsider their poor life choices right now. If I shoot someone at 400 meters, unless they're the love child of Roy ****ing Benavidez and Manila John Basilone, they're going to be distracted enough by the hole(s) through their torso that for the remaining time they have enough oil pressure to hurt me, their effectiveness will be reduced markedly. Being that that is the case, the 10.5" will work fine for most scenarios. Besides, as a civilian, I'm more likely to have 40 meters be my long range than 400.

IIRC, our friend KevB has transferred a few souls to Jesus at 400 or so with a Mk18.

Give me my 10.5" with a good light and a couple of different optics and I'm GTG.
Good response Per the OP question for a fighting rifle.

I am boring. Colt 6920 with Aimpoint M4 and dd lite rail with fsb cut out and and x300 at 12. Or you could just get a DD with thecsame setup.

Why? The Colt is pretty obvious. The benchmark rifle.

Aimpoint M4? Mil STD with 8 years of batt life with 2 moa dot. Bombproof.

X300 is a good light and can do double duty with handgun.

DD rail is lightweight and allows for 12 o'clock mount while retaining the FSB.
If you aren't armed when you take a dump in your own home then your opinion on what is a practical daily carry weapon isn't interesting to me.

Sure thing bro, just had to take a quick one as I realized I had not done it since finishing the carbine about six months ago. This is my final solution for now as I have been through alot of different configurations. This is very close to my department issue carbine, but with my choice of light, VFG, optic and gas system. I doubt I will ever use anything but a Centurion rail from this point on, for me it really is that good. The only addition I would like to make is one of the DBAL-I2 IR/Vis lasers that have recently been released. For me that would really make it an all round capable fighting gun.

I'm planning a 12.5" Kino with a Centurion midlength FSP rail. I've heard nothing but great things about these rails.

KAC SR15 block 3 SBR with aimpoint T-1, surefire m300a mini scout, NT4 can and VCAS sling. Currently running a SR15E3 with same list, cant wait to have a identical rifle with 11.5" barrel for the can.

I Like the carbine gas system, been very reliable for me. Anyway my favorite setup consists of 14.5" barrel, YHM diamond fluted. YHM diamond carbine length handguard, spikes fail zero bcg(awesome) dpms lower with spikes nib battle trigger and jp reduced power springs, magpul trigger guard and a2 pistol grip, stock is milspec moe with x brand stock kit regular spring and buffer it's a very handy setup for close in work and gd out to longer ranges oh and runnin YHM qds flip ups and eotech 512!

I would like to know why in your earlier post you suggest "at least a 12" rail?
Fire_Medic: A longer rail allows the shooter to have an aggressive stance with the weak hand as far forward on the rail as possible to improve recoil control and increase the ability to rapidly drive the rifle between multiple targets. It also allows placement of the light as far forward as possible, to reduce shadowing. A long rail can also aid shooting against and around barriers, as well as in atypical alternate firing positions. Finally, when transitioning or slinging the rifle, it keeps me from burning my leg with a hot barrel. If I could manage it, I'd run the FF rail right out to the end of the barrel...

Thanks for the input, I know about the hand placement as that is one of my issues with the FSP, not being a small person for my frame. I was just curious with your back ground if there was something else I was missing, as we always have something to learn.
