my choice of a "fighting rifle"?

it would depend on ranges and environment.

    given a choice:

close ranges less than 200 meters/yds against 'soft' targets: M4 in 5.56.

from zero to 1000 meters/yards against 'hardened' targets or 'sophisticated' (armored up troops, vehicles, etc): 7.62x51

Nice setup, it's almost exact to mine but I have a 6940. How do you like the aimpoint pro?

personal preference only but if I had a RDS (T-1 size) that small, I'd change out the rear sight to a folder and add a magnifier.

the tipping mounts are cool but I see the benefit of the twist-off that comes with the Aimpoint so I didn't have to keep it on the gun all the time...

I like it so far. I had an EOtech 512 on the M&P15 I used to have and tend to favor the Aimpoint because of the single dot versus the ring with dot on the EOtech. Plus Aimpoint tends to have insane battery life. I'm thinking about switching to a Troy Industries rear folding sight. I'm not sure how well the spring loaded polymer Magpul MBUS will hold up should I drop the rifle.

only change would be surefire G2/E2D in gear sector off set mount, this set up would cover anything for me within 0-300 meters ,period.
