I would go with a 14.5" AR platform. Probably Noveske SS 14.5" switchblock upper w/ AAC 51T blackout, SR-15 lower, URXIII mid-length rails w/handstop, KAC micro 300yd BUIS, CTR stock, Aimpoint Micro T-1 w/ 3X magnifier in LaRue mounts, Magpul ASAP plate, Magpul RSA, MS3 sling. I think that covers it.

I like to keep my SHTF rifles simple.

BCM complete 14.5" M4 upper with pinned Phantom
    BCM BCG
    Stag lower
BCM Gen 2 Stock assembly with H2 buffer
    DD Omega Rail
    TD stubby QD VFG
    Surefire 6P with LED upgrade

I also just ordered a complete BCM lower so this will be a complete BCM gun soon.

    Either of these.

BCM 14.5 middy on LMT. (left)
    Colt 6920 (right)

Both with many extras. Both bomber boom sticks.

Since it's a 14.5", I'd question whether the mid length or carbine gas system is the way to go.

Now, of my guns, my flavor of the week is an LMT mk18 on a Noveske lower, Aimpoint T1, mini scout light, SOPMOD on a Vltor A5, stubby Tango Down and a Matech and KAC folding BUIS.
I'm still going to say a 14.5". Right now I'm running a BCM mid length but would like to have a 14.5" carbine to compare side by side. I guess I'm just not 100% on the 14.5" mid length yet even thugh I haven't had a single issue.

Even though I use an Aimpoint and keep a 3x handy most of the time on the 14.5" or switch to an ACOG TA31 on occasion, I'd likely choose a Specter DR or a quality 1-4 from Nightforce or S&B if I only had one optic and one rifle.

I'd probably stick to a 6921 but so far this BCM mid length has been running strong.
Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~ Paul Howe

    See Above (sans bi-pod)

    ETA:

There are a few things I would do slightly differently since technology has improved...still though it would be:

    Colt M4
    KAC RAS
Magpul VFG (mounting is better than the KAC, but the KAC is still serviceable)
Aimpoint M68 (maybe in a better mount than the issued one)
KAC Micro 300M Rear Sight (although the issued Matech worked great for me)
Surefire M600C in a Gear Sector mount (would be nearly as happy with the M951)
    BFG Vickers Sling
    Krylon to match environment.
    PEQ-15A if operating with NODs.

I was talking about this setup. What the crap is this? Is it a joke that I'm not getting.
