A Recce is pretty damn hard to beat for all-around performance as others have mentioned.

    BCM 16" SS410 w/ S&B Short Dot for me.

Now I just need some money...

This is my 1 fighting rifle, its kind of boring, but it would be my go to. It may be supplanted by a 6933 in the future, but I am focusing on shooting this carbine well and shooting it often.

Carbine gas system " for softer shooting "
    Colt upper with dings
Colt 7" Futuristic Plastic Double shielded handguard
16.1" 1/7 twist Colt Barrel HP/MP C marked, Chromelined, filthy
    A2 flashider
Matech buis with alot of numbers I dont use
Colt BCG complete with MPC marked bolt, spring and jet black insert. Also alot of oil and filth.
Aimpoint "Patrol Rifle Optic" and giant knob mount
Israeli IDF issue super sling mount
Colt lower with dings and scratches.
Straight up USGI trigger, wearing in
    standard spring and H buffer
Old school Car 15 N1 marked stock
    Colt A2 grip
Nothing Magpul except their excellent Pmags loaded with Black hills mk262 or Bulk Xm193
colt 20 round mags for HD/ weight purposes loaded with Federal Fusion bonded softpoint ammo

I would be torn between my M4 and an AK47. I recently sold my AKs to fund an AR, but I miss the punch of that 7.62x39.

Now, when I get my AR-10, different story.

Would be happy with that for sure. It would be my hypothetical choice as well.

Out of the guns un my safe it would be my LMT carbine:

    14.5" barrel with pinned vortex
    DD 9.5FSP LITE
    GA SSA Trigger
    Aimpoint T1 (KAC mount)
    SOPMOD Stock
    Troy rear BUIS
Malfoff VME SF E1b (DIY Mini-Scout)
    Vtac sling

    My first and favorite AR.

I have spent a lot of time and money trying to figure out what the best "fighting" or "combat" style rifle for me is. I have other rifles that serve a more specialized purpose but this is my general use weapon.

    • LMT 14.5" Upper
    • LMT Defender Lower
    • LMT SOPMOD (VERY solid and light weight)
    • Solid Trigger (I use the LMT 2-stage but that is personal preference as long as it isn't too fragile)
    • Daniel Defense RIS II (I use the 9.55" to save a little weight over the 12")
    • Folding BUIS set (I use Troy but also think think that KAC makes good stuff and there are some other nice ones)
    • Trijicon ACOG TA31RCO-M4 (I like the stadia lines if I were to be operating with other people - which in a SHTF situation, if you aren't working with anyone else you can consider yourself dead IMO)
    • Quality mags (I know GI and Pmags both work fine)

    • It is also important to have a light and a sling... I keep mine off unless I am in a situation where it is needed so that I don't have that extra weight. I have a SureFire m951 and it is a little large IMO. The light is good for obvious reasons and the sling prevents you from having to wear your arms out if you are working in a set location. When traveling I would think it would be unwise to sling your rifle because if you get attacked, you don't shouldn't have to take the time to un-sling your weapon.

    Fighting rifle

If we're talking a purely fighting rifle I'd go with my Noveske in 6.8 SPC.

    VLTOR MUR upper
    Noveske 13.8" barrel with KX3
    BCM gunfighter charging handle
BCM ion bonded carrier with ARP enhanced bolt
    TROY BUIS
Eotech xps ( I like eotech over aimpoint .... Different strokes)
Mega lower with ambi controls and Wilson Combat trigger
    Surefire scout light

I like the 6.8 SPC for a defensive round which is why I have this rifle, if it was a Zombie apocalypse scenario I'd go 5.56 for ammo availability.

If we're talking strictly a 5.56 platform I'd go with a BCM middy with your choice or RDS and flashlight. Add a gunfighter charging handle, BCM ION bond FA carrier. Standard lower with plain Jane trigger and MOE grip for an extra bolt/batteries, ect.

Lately I'm digging on the Magpul MOE handguards! You can't free float but if you have a fixed FSB I can't see why you'd go with a standard rail unless you need a continuous upper rail. Light weight, not a big deal if you ding it up and rail spaces where you need or want them.
