I would have to go with my Haley/BCM Jack inspired rifle. It now has a Aimpoint Pro on it and it shoots like a dream.

I don't know the platform so it wouldn't be my first choice, but for the sake of discussion...

I hope I don't get bashed for this lol, but the IWI Tavor (with rail, not the built-in reflex) might be a pretty solid option for an increasingly urbanized environment. I'm sure the trigger sucks, but everything else about it seems pretty great: superior form factor for CQB/HD/SD (while maintaining accuracy due to 16.5" or 18" barrels), accepts AR-15 mags, integrated back-up sights fold down flush w/ rail when not in use (less likely to be damaged).

Barrel length effects velocity and effective range, not accuracy.

If I could only choose one

Since getting my 11.5 BCM with dd rail, I don't even shoot my 14.5 or 16 anymore. With my hand loads of 50gr TSX it is 2moa out to 250 with T1. So I can't complain with that. It is so much more manageable moving through small spaces and I don't want to contact anyone in a shtf situation past 100 yards or so anyway.

    Upper-
11.5 BCM with 7inch DD omega rail
    BC 1.0
    BCM M16 BCG
    GUnfighter mod 3
Aimpoint T1 micro with io cover
    HSP thorntail with surefire g2x
    RFG
    Troy BUIS

    Lower-
    BCM complete lower
    TD PR4
    Magpul CTR
    VTAC padded sling

Fair enough I suppose, but wouldn't lower velocity make it more difficult to accurately hit a target at distance? But I digress lol..."while maintaining velocity and effective range due to 16.5- or 18-inch barrels".

No, you just need to know your holds. What was once an 8" drop may now be 10", for example. In some cases going shorter makes the barrel more accurate if all else is equal.

Good defensive loads like TSX, gold dot, TAP, etc will still be very effective from short barrels. Once you get to a range where expansion/fragmentation isn't 100% reliable, it's still punching holes.
Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~ Paul Howe

KAC SR-16 CQB ... or whatever derivative of this rifle was otherwise legal and obtainable (SR-15E3).
