What ever you're looking at, avoid a "match" chamber or barrel on this thing.

Given the uses you've outlined, "match" shouldn't even be in the vocabulary. You want that thing to handle any ammo you can get in it, and reliability is usually compromised when you go "match".

Also, it's a word that has been used to justify sub standard barrels (non chrome lined) with substandard materials and rates of twist.

If I were in your shoes, I'd buy something like a Bravo Co., Daniel Defense, LMT, or Noveske 16" carbine with a pinned Battle Comp on it and a good, short LOP fixed stock.

If HD is one of the primary uses, you'll likely want something like the BattleComp as suggested above rather than a simple target crowned muzzle.

    Why?
Imagine you are in the dark late at night in the hallway.
Pop a flashbulb to simulate the crowned muzzle.
Touch off a regular little firecracker to simulate a muzzle device.

Which one is less likely to utterly kill any night vision you had going for you up til that moment, the big fireball, or the significantly smaller and contained burn?

It's a huge defensive disadvantage when the only thing you can see is spots before your eyes.

The last class I attended I shot next to a gentleman with a ban rifle ,colt, with no flash attachment or brake, That thing was a cannon next to me loud, loud, loud. During the night shoot I had to stop and watch the muzzle blast coming out of the muzzle two feet long and billowing out like a dragon.
    Good times...
I have a pinned phantom on mine and I am trying the Battle Comp on another.

I think Templar is onto something. What manuf. that would be considered "top tier" on this site does not offer a permed muzzle device? Most of them cater to us stuck in Commi states.

Sounds like this may be a barrel to avoid.

There are many options for ban state residents and it seems that the BattleComp is the best. I love the one on my SPR and will use them on every build in the future.

At least you are being honest. I have met 450 lb dudes who swore up and down that they NEEDED a techno-whizbang gadget that were pictured in the latest SWAT magazine or in the latest movie because they might be in that situation and wanted something rugged. And then they go out and buy Chicom RDS's and say I am dumb for buying expensive shit.[/rant]

Thank you guys. This is very helpful input. I've asked for more specific info on the barrel in question and am looking into other options for the barrel as well. In this case, I don't know what "match grade" really means and, with respect to any kind of muzzle device, I don't want to handicap myself beyond my natural incapacity and I really don't want to be that guy on the firing line and have my equipment become somebody else's issue.

LOL. If we are talking about the LAV/Hackathorn Night Carbine class a couple years back, i was that guy. I believe that the host of available premium defense ammo options including Federal's TRU does much to control the muzzle blast (dragon) aspect of the problem. As far as the noise is concerned, i don't see a compensator producing less. After all, no device at all causes the noise to travel straight out in front of the shooter. If im wrong, someone please chime in, since i need any excuse to buy a Battlecomp.

According to the manufacturer, the barrel that is being offered is the Del-Ton AR-15 16" post-ban barrel. Does anybody have any thoughts on/experience with this particular barrel?

I am also looking into what it might cost me to get a 14.5" barrel with a permanently attached muzzle device. If anybody has any suggestions about where to look or who to talk to, I would be very appreciative.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't buy anything from Delton. I think people have already made suggestions. ADCO can do any pinning or barrel mods that need to happen and they are widely used and recommended.
