Just from my experience in the USMC infantry, XOs sat in the COC and rarely ever went on patrol. But they liked pull rank and take all the better and lighter equipment from those pvts or lcpls who went on patrol everyday.

Its really not a big deal. We're all on the same team here. It just irks me when I read stuff like that, pulling rank and all.

They're about beans and bullets and getting the right equipment to the right guys.
Again, everyone that needed a damn can had one. I am not sure how your unit is equipped but no one 'went for want' on that tour (unlike when I was there in 2003/2004).

Back in 2005/2006 we had access to some pretty heavy funding for equipment - much different than today. But then again we also did our own missions and were just standing up the ICDC (now Iraqi Army) so all room clearing and cordon/search operations were done by us and not some rag head IA unit. I would imagine that most now go to Iraq and never shoot their weapon outside of the range. Different times I guess.

Only suppressor to withstand .mil testing? SF not not much more expensive than AAC if you find a dealer who doesn't sell at MSRP.

lol, and I'm dragged back in. My first tour was 06-late 07. I was in a Battalion Scout Platoon in Mosul. We were heavily funded too - I remember being given trashbags full of SF lights, belts, etc. Suppressors, not so much. There were never enough of those to go around. I get a little worked up sometimes, so I apologize if I got a little pissy. My point is, an XO should never have something that Joe does not. The men in the platoons have want and need way more than the guy who stays back at the company CP and coordinates the supplies. An XO is not out clearing rooms, running patrols, or cordon/searches. There's no way in the world that I believe you had 100+ suppressors for a single company. That's about the only way I could see an officer, much less an XO, getting a can.

I promise, no more. I'd be happy to take this to PMs - which we should've done in the first place.

I know cans can be a touchy subject - however, you see it said a lot. Some of the better companies out there (and in no particular order) are SF, AAC, KAC, OPS INC, Gemtech, and a few others I'm sure I'm not mentioning. I know I can't tell the difference in a few db's.....POI shift is what I'm after.

At best AAC have been used as issue items alongside existing KAC, OPS, Gemtech, and SF units. I'd still consider the Surefire option to be the superior one, although the value argument does tend away from them.

While OPS doesn't have as reduced POI shift as SF (going mostly off data from TheAccuser) determining actual relevance of that on a particular host (or hosts) should matter significantly more - dedicated suppressed with one can - POI shift won't matter. If you're swapping a can on and off on a Recce or something, that's a lot more important.

I'll save my rant for the majority of officers being unable to remove their head from their 5th point of contact -

ON topic - given the weight and roughly 5.56k/212 form factor, is anybody else thinking that the 7.62 MINI might be the surefire can for those with only the budget for one suppressor (that would be, if made and sold in volume) cheaper than an AAC equivalent?
I'd expect it to be a little bit loud on a 5.56 10", but as a general purpose suppressor, this truly looks hard to beat.
