I think the rack and pinion mechanism that's central to this rifle's design is really interesting and clever.

That being said, I've never shot any type of lever gun. Would you say that the R&P gears are an improvement [and/or smoother] over the traditional lever?

Also, that this rifle has a detachable mag, I can see the pros and cons about that too. In my book, the BLR is the Winchester 1895 of modern times, am I right?

The RP mechanism is smooth as butter out of the box.

As to improvement it lets you have a gun that is lighter over all.

It is a 40 year old design and has had a good amount of use in the field.

I would call that a good record.
