I'm going to buy a Kalashnikov rifle...

I'm going to buy a Kalashnikov rifle, this will be my first.
I've been reading up on these here lately, and I decided to go with 7.62x39.
I have ammo, I have mags.

My choices have basically narrowed down to the SGL21-94 from Arsenal. Saiga receiver and Russian side folder.

I've seen the Military Arms channel review, and read the one post here directly related to this rifle.

Other than a slightly high price tag, is there any reason to go with a different rifle?

Can anyone offer anymore first hand info?

    Thoughts?

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you in that I am an AK neophyte. I'm considering an Arsenal as well in the hope buying a regarded rifle may protect me from my own ignorance given the multitude if options present with AKs. I'm looking at the AK74 platform though, versus the AK47 due to lower ammunition cost, better accuracy (from what I've read), lower recoil, etc.

IMO you can't go wrong with any of the SGL 21/31 series.

The SGL 21 is a helluva rifle. You won't be disappointed.

They are a little spendy these days, but are a great gun. Go for broke.

    Thumbs up

Hell of a choice for one's first Kalashnikov.
