    Walkie-Talkie Recommendation?

I'd like to get a few radios for communication & the only ones I'm familiar with are the small motorola models. Unfortunately those don't have a great distance and I was hoping someone would have some suggestions.

I was in the market not long ago for a few walkie's. I picked up 4 Motorola Talkabout MR350's at a local BestBuy. They have worked out pretty good and much better than the older Motorola models. I think the quality and distance vary depending on your environment. JMHO.

Unless you want to get a FCC license and spend a lot of money on start up, the Motorolas are about as good as it gets for store bought radios to us average Joes. Comms can get expensive in a hurry.

In my opinion it's worth the time to get the license for HAM, and heck the answers for the test are online.. The HAM handhelds allow you to listen to other frequencies as well like police, fire. To me it's worth the investment in time, and money to get the added features it's really not that big of a deal.

If one does go through with getting the license, what is a good hand held to look at, as well as a vehicle mounted unit?

www.aa9pw.com is the website that basically has practice tests, that have the real answers on the test. You can get a handheld HAM for 100-150 bucks used off ebay.

I'm considering CB radios that can be semi-vehicle mounted but also detached and used as a handheld.
