First off, M16 and M4 barrels are not hammer forged. Neither Colt or FN makes them that way.
They are button rifled.
FN cannot sell AR15 components to any civilian, foreign LE/MIL, or domestic LE organization by contract.
So this whole story about FN hammer forged AR15 type barrels is bullshit.
The fact that this thread has allowed to go on page two without a decisive post by a Senior Member, SME, IP, etc to put an end to this nonsense is troubling.

And real mil grade uppers don't sell for $400 either.

Um no.
PSA is misleading.
It says on their website:
"Manufactured right here in South Carolina using the finest "machine gun steel", which is a patented blend developed by FN and used for their government contracts. This steel is designed to exceed all military requirements and is the same blend used in FN's M16, M240 and M249 barrels."
FACT: M16 barrels are not made the same as M249/M240 barrels.
FACT: FN didn't invent the "blend of steel" for the M16 barrel.

Well, Palmetto State Armory is a sponsoring dealer on here on M4C with their own sub forum. I don't have a dog in the fight one way or the other, but if you're going to say that a site sponsor is purposefully misleading consumers, I hope you have something to back that up with.

It's definitely disingenuous, but I don't think it rises to the level of "misleading".
To say they are FN barrels sounds like typical salesman bullshit.
But, we'll see.
Frankly, I think PSA carbines make sense, as long as you avoid putting too much money in them. The basic $600 carbine makes sense to me as a beater/truck/loaner gun, and mainly out of curiousity as to how good/bad they are. Once you start "upgrading" them, you'd be better off with a used Colt.

I can put together an upper like that using a Daniel Defense chf m4 barrel and an Aero Precision stripped upper for around $415 without bcg and charging handle with paying tax and shipping so I don't think that a company would have a problem putting a quality upper together and selling it for $400. They probably won't make a huge profit on one alone but if They sell 100 They probably do alright.
Misleading, disingenuous?
A PSA rep is on "another' site, specifically saying they are made for PSA by FN.
Call it whatever but it's either true or they better "revise" that statement?
just sayin.
