But look how they've aggressively improved their product. And still, their prices are fairly reasonable, and definitely come in at the lower end of the serious carbine category on price.

The point isn't to bash Spike's or PSA, it's to point out that even less expensive carbine manufacturers are trying hard to compete on quality. And that is a good thing.
I appologize for jumping to the wrong conclusion. Yes a few years ago it was pretty much only their lowers I would have had any interest in.

I don't think there is anything unique about Noveske's CL'ing process anymore. Spikes (as well as Centurion, and apparently PSA, too) barrels are reportedly the same M249 barrels from FN. Since FN is selling to everyone seemingly, Noveske's uniqueness just went out the window. (Feel free to correct me if I misunderstood that these are all the same barrels made by FN).

If anyone takes a hit, it will most likely be Noveske.

It seems like they may all be using the same blanks. However, that hasn't been confirmed for several manufacturers, including Noveske & BCM. The real difference will lie with how each manf specs the barrels from FN, including straightness tolerances, chamber dimensions and gas port specs. Until someone can one can obtain a sample of each and compare them side by side with the proper gauges, I don't think its fair to assume they are all the same.

do you think the only thing that makes Noveske's barrels unique is the barrel material ?

This is an interview Dave Crain did w/John Noveske a few years ago.

    Holy Smokes and Kraft Cheesus!

If the product description speaks the truth, this is essentially the perfect upper that I've been looking for! I need someone to throw some cold water on my enthusiasm, so as to have a reality check, or else I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger on one of these.

Perhaps these other chrome lined offerings will compete with some of Noveske's lineup, but Noveske's stainless barrels are highly regarded, with a chamber and twist unique to Noveske.

Why are lightweight not the best for a "go to" carbine?

why is their heavier profile, but lighter than GP ideal? As I understand GP is lightweight under the hand-guards, and heavier towards the muzzle. It would seem that you would want the thick towards the receiver, but WTF do I know?

Does anyone know what the diameter of the barrel is both fore and aft the gas block? Is it the same throughout?
