We will have 3 or 4 total stages set up tomorrow. I am borrowing the "Money Shot/Pick Your Poison" stage from this years NPRC: http://www.centermassinc.com/files/44616789.pdf

The other stages that John is planning are from 10-25yds distance and will involve multiple IPSC targets engaged from varying distances and will likely included some reloads.

More details on the "Money Shot/Pick Your Poison" stage below....

It will be set-up 40yds from the targets as described in the link.

Time limit will be 2:00 mins, not 1:30 as listed in the link.

Shooters will start from the standing position with their rifles laying on the ground on "SAFE" with a loaded magazine inserted in the gun (20 rounds total) & an empty chamber.

On the command to "GO", shooters will pick up their rifles and assume a PRONE position, and then chamber a round making the weapon "hot". Shooters must then fire a single round at the "Money shot" small silhouette target. *Shooters choice: 3x3" head shot is worth 120 points *or* 6x6" body shot worth 50 points. Shooters may not use a bipod or place their magazine on the ground as support while taking their single "Monet shot". Shooters must engage the "Money shot" target using their elbows on the ground for support with their rifles completely off of the ground. If any portion of the rifle, stock, or magazine, etc. touches the ground while engaging the "Money shot" target, the shooter will receive 0 points for this portion of the stage.

With the rifle on “safe” and keeping the muzzle down range and below the berm, the shooter transitions to a SEATED *or* KNEELING position and then fires the remaining 19 rounds into their choice of the circle targets. Shooters can alternate circle targets as they desire.

*YOUR MUZZLE MUST POINT DOWN RANGE AT ALL TIMES. IF IT POINTS LEFT OR RIGHT AT ANYTIME DURING THE EVOLUTION YOU WILL BE STOPPED AND EJECTED FROM THE EVENT.

    Scoring: 500 points possible

    Money Shot:Body: 50/ Head: 120

Pick your poison: ANY ROUND TOUCHING THE BLACK IS A MISS. ONE MISS NEGATES ALL YOUR POINTS FOR THE PICK YOUR POISON PORTION OF THIS EVOLUTION. ONE MISS, ALL MISS. There is no penalty for not shooting all 19 rounds.

    6” Target: 5 points |5” Target: 10 points |4” Target: 15 points |3” Target: 20 points

With 500 total points possible during this stage, it should be obvious that the "Money Shot/Pick Your Poison" stage will be a HUGE part of each shooters final overall score for the entire day. Only hits count! Take too much of a risk to try and rack-up points and you may end up with NOTHING on this stage. Accuracy rules the day on this event.

*Because I needed to make up the various sized circle targets on my own, we will be doing plenty of stapling and will need as many staples & staple guns as we can get. Anyone that can assist with staplers and posting up targets betweens groups will be greatly appreciated.

    And as usual....

    Disclaimer & Requirements:
The Practical Rifle events at the Aurora Sportsman’s Club are not super high speed as we always need to take a wide range of skill levels into account, but the Practical Rifle event is not for shooters who have never fired a rifle before.

Shooters attending the ASC’s Practical Rifle events need to have a solid practical understanding of the fundamentals of shooting and safely manipulating (loading/un-loading, trigger finger placement, muzzle discipline, etc.) their rifles. Prior formal instruction on shooting a semi-automatic rifle is highly recommended.

*ALL shooters must bring their own eye & ear protection.

*ALL shooters must provide their own ammunition.

*NO steel core or “Armor piercing” ammunition will be allowed on stages that use steel targets (No exceptions).

    General info:
Action Shooting Sports at Aurora Sportsmen’s Club
Practical Rifle 4th Saturday of Each Month

The purpose of Practical Rifle is both competition and skills development. Shooters typically use modern magazine fed semi- automatic weapons such as AR-15s, AK-47 variants etc. Shooters challenge themselves by facing new tasks and situations each month.
This is an opportunity to get your rifle "off the bench" and test your marksmanship skills while developing new skills most can't practice on the range. Shooters should plan on firing about 100 rounds.

Shooters MUST be present and registered in time for the safety brief beginning at 9:30 am. If you arrive early, help setting up is always appreciated. Cost is $10 for ASC members, $20 non-members.

Practical Rifle events use the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) rules for our events. This is to ensure all participants are on the same page, the most important thing to know is the range commands.
