Not LE so my response is not from a point of experience or need but I am well experienced with my carbine. Seems to me the only question that needs to be asked is does the 60 round mag deter performance in any way. It is on the gun, it has "more", and more is better. If it does not detract from handling and performance, I don't see how it can't be a good option.

Everything I build is lightweight with the exception of SBR and precision types. So I'm all about weight. The reason this won't be the first mag up isn't about weight. It's about length and not wanting all or the majority of your ammo in a single device. If it was just weight it would be a non issue as I'm pretty sure this is still lighter than 2 mags and a redi mag, which many here use. Let's be honest here. Like many, I'll buy one just to try it out. Not need, just want, and that's still OK.

How will anyone know how well the 60 rnd mag will work for their situation until they get one and actually try it? Without actually putting the magazine into use, all one can do is speculate

I have two 20 round mags loaded with fighting ammo. Only two. If I am ever killed in a gunfight because I ran out of 5.56 ammo I will be the most astonished dying man in the history of the world. Astonished because I was not able to stop the gunfight with 40 shots from a rifle. That added to the astonishment of being able to lay hands on my rifle to begin with. The vast majority of gun fights occur so suddenly that what you are going to have to fight with is what you have on your person or at your fingertips this second. In most cases that will not be an AR. I can see the utility of this for a soldier or Marine who is caught in an ambush. But all I know of soldiering is what I have read. I am interested to hear what combatants have to say about a 60 or 100 round mag.

From all accounts it appears as though the reason for this was as an automatic rifle. When you look at replacing a 200 round belt with a 60 or even 100 round magazine suddnely 60 rounds doesn't look like too much ammo.

I'm not LE or Mil, but if good reliability is established, I'll be picking up a couple 60 and 100 mags for my F/A shooting. If some LE or Mil pick some up and run them hard, please let me know your results. Thanks.

There is limited utility for these magazines for general LE patrol work, for the reasons already posted by others. With budget and resource allocation realities, it's difficult to justify them in an honest cost:benefit analysis.

Where useful in LE patrol, I see these magazines in a crisis deployment/drop bag of some sort.

There are LE and security users that will benefit and put them to good use. Those user groups will be sufficiently funded that the price tag is no problem. This is not a magazine for the masses, and upon information and belief, is not intended to be.

Just handled one of these while talking to a company representative. Looks very well made and is supposed to allow 60 rounds to remain stored in the magazine so that a large quantity of them could be stored on a pallet, ready for deployment.

Would certainly be handy at the local prairie dog town.

That runs parallel to my train of thought as well. Rarely will most offers be encountering Mogadishu like scenarios where they'll be pinning down the bad guy with suppressive fire. I know one most prepare for the worst and hope for the best but I believe there is a realistic limit as to how far one must go to be prepared. For other reasons already mentioned I think you're better off with more magazines of less capacity.

I can see the utility of this for a soldier or Marine who is caught in an ambush.
I believe they would serve well in an ambush type scenario but I don't think they're very practical for all day, every day type of patrols due to weight, maneuverability, etc. Might be good to have as a last resort, oh shit!, magazine but not carried as your primary in the weapon.
