I prefer my RIS II to anything else I've used. I have the mk18 and with ladder style covers it feels great. I like it so much I think I'm replacing my URX II with the 12" on my SR15 since I've now broken two front sights - well, one completely broke and the other needed some tweaking but I imagine it's weakened.

The RIS II just feels so solid in comparison and very comfortable for me. I ran Iraq Ninja's BCM this weekend for a few rounds which had a FSB and a Omega, IIRC and that felt really good as well though I don't have enough experience to comment past that.

I'd go for the RIS II unless. Had a fixed front gas block then I'd go LaRue or DD Lite 9.

I would not replace a RAS with a DD Omega.

I feel the RAS is superior, as it allows you to remove the bottom rail for cleaning. It also doesn't leave set screw marks on expensive Colt barrels.

I wouldn't replace a RAS with an Omega, or an Omega with a RAS for any reason. Each perform well enough to do the job. If you have one of either currently, which you do, use the money for something else.

If you're going to do it, do it right. RIS II, with or without the FSB cutout. Both can mount an M203. Armorer install, can be had for 3 bills. Install is usually relatively inexpensive. It's what the military went with.

I don't fully understand what you meant when you said "...maneuverability of a musket and you might be better off getting another 16 inch".....I guess I thought the m16A$/M4-clone was a 16 inch gun...please enlighten me.

Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis, and the rise of the sons of Aryas, masakari had a photo of his M16A4 above the M4.

Never had or used a KAC but there reputation is outstanding. I have several Omega's in varying lengths and one Omega X and they are all rock solid and dimensionally correct. If the KAC has no issues then I see no reason to replace it. Nothing wrong with wanting something new though.

    I made the switch....

    Before:

    After:

    Why did I do it?
    1) I wanted a free float rail that I could install myself.
    2) Wanted a lighter rail.
    3) Quick release socket.

Price? I did it all on the cheap. I purchased the used KAC rail on the ARFCOM EE for $150 with covers and VFG. I resold it in the same place for just a little less and then picked up the DD on the EE for about $200 with the Tango down stubby.

Good choice. I actually had both the Omega and the RAS, and decided to sell the Omega. The RAS feels better, has heat shields, and I like being able to remove the bottom rail.

Sounds like you did good. I have been very happy with my Omega rail. Just curious, what is your rear sight? At first I thought it was a DD but that looks like a quick detach mount of some kind on it.
