    1000$ TacDriver?

My dad has been a member of this other ar15 webpage for awhile. Well the old man was telling me about the 1000 build. All they talk about is building your own rifle or you rifle is a waste of time and money. I was going to buy a POF but if its really true, and I can build a complete "tacDriver" for under $1000. Well then Im going to go custom then. Have any of you guys built one really sweet and very accurate rifle for under $1000.

Let me start by saying that I have not built a setup like that, and im new to ARs generally, but....
I think if you bought something like BCM SS 1/8" twist upper, you would be on your way, but I think a good free float rail, good trigger system, BCG, ect... would put you over $1000 especially after the stock and lower and the other gadgets.

Thats just my 2 cents, but again im not an expert at all, and may be totally wrong.

Plus you would need a good optic to drive tacks at any distance.

Im pretty sure this is without optic. Just the complete platform. Im actually afraid to post anything on the other page because those members will try to eat you.

    Don't buy a P.O.S. POF.

I think for $1200-$1400 you can have a setup that will outshoot most normal shooters abilities.
Around $1000 with a standard trigger and without a free float rail/handguard

    Just my very novice opinion

    .

You have to decide what you value more - reliability or accuracy? I would rather have a reliable and reasonably accurate rifle than a 3-shot wonder.

My rifle has not been cleaned for 2800 rounds. I shot several sandbagged 1-1/2" groups at 100-yards a few weeks ago...btw that's 10-round groups shot in less than 1-minute. Not a tackdriver but I consider it very accurate.

I think you could build a better gun than a POF pretty easily. You could build a reliable and accurate gun for $1200 or so...or you could buy a Colt 6920 for $1000 or a nice BCM for $1100 or so. I think gun prices now are at the point where you can buy complete quality guns at a better price than building something from quality components.

    But maybe it's just me...

Reasons for your distaste toward POF?

To the OP: Read the stickies and a do a search for the subject you're asking about. There has been a lot of discussion on the subject already.

Believe me, I've spent HOURS reading the stickies and as many tech threads as I can. Just searching for more specifics and personal experiences...but I can certainly not if it pleases the masses....

You'd be hard pressed to find a barrel that fit into the $1000-total rifle mold that had serious accuracy potential. However, you may find a barrel on a $1000 build that was capable of good accuracy, but that would be coincidence more than barrel design. Once you add the requisite FF tube and better barrel, the price will surely jump up another few hundred. It would be counter-productive to try to add "value" parts to a build just so you could spend more on a barrel and FF tube, so don't cheap out on the BCG or LPK to save $50.
