    Smokie,

I can only assume that you know nothing of the AR platform nased on those comments below. You will be a little hard pressed to find an AR that will shoot that well. The M16 FOW aka AR15 is a combat rifle. Yes, they are accurate and can be great shooters with the right set up, scope and ammunition. Of course the important part is the shooter. If you cannot do your part you can have a laser beam and not hit.

What exactly are you doing at 100 yards that will require you to shoot sub MOA? In addition to your stated goal of 1400-1500 you will need to spend alot of money on a good piece of glass.

Now, if you forget all that nonsense below, and focus on reality you can build a good solid AR that will more than likely shoot 2 MOA consistently and RELIABLY.

I think you the AR is probably wring for you and you need to look at a bolt action rifle.

My friends and I always have a shoot out when we camp. Where we stick a white thumb tac on a white sheet of paper at 50 yards and irons only till we push it through. Buddys gramp and I are always In the finals. His bigger bullet usually wins with his springfrield m1. Well I cant afford to shoot the .308. This is my 3rd reason for reliable accuracy.
    But thats off topic again

For the most part you fellers answered the question. Its just i'm going to be spending about 1400 to 1500 on a complete the way I like. Which doesnt bother me one bit. Just wanted to see how many
people built a rifle shooting "talk about groupings" for under 1000$

    +1 on those sentiments.

To get the best accuracy out of whatever you buy you will need good ammo. Good ammo is expensive or takes some time and expertise to load yourself. I only mention that because you balk at the price of .308 ammo.

If you want a range & hunting "TacDriver", i.e., no BUIS, you can just about do it for $1K not including shipping and registration for your lower:

    White Oak 1:7 18" SPR BBL- $265
    A2 FH - $8
    BCM A4 Upper - $100
    MI SS12 12" FF HG -$150
    BCM BCG - $140
    Basic CH - $23
    VLTOR GB - $56
rifle length gas tube - $12
    Spikes stripped lower - $95
    BCM A2 stock kit - $99
    G&R LPK - $86

    Total - $1,034

You might be able to do better than that as I didn't perform an exhaustive search for the lowest priced items. Some of these parts are out of stock right now, so you'd have to be patient or substirute. You can snag a pistol grip and standard TG for free around here if you ask nicely enough Perhaps an A2 FH as well.

I've seen sub-MOA out of the WOA SPR barrel, but then again, I've only seen one such configuration. YMMV.

Naturally, you'll need a scope mount and a decent scope which is going to set you back at least 50% of your budget build.

If I wanted to build an accurate gun, I'd buy a Savage/Stevens in your caliber of choice, put a supersniper 10X on it and start with that. Waaaay under $1k and super easy to work on.

The main part of my op was seeing if a accurate AR could be built for under 1000$.
Yes I am learning. Will be for quite sometime.
If you were all thinking that I was thinking the AR could shoot sub 1 at 300. I was not.

No, I understood your post. Like I said sub-MOA at 100 is going to be pretty difficult and will cost you.

From what I have seen most people cannot shoot to their weapons potential. Myself included.

For what its worth to the OP for a general idea, this was my first AR.

    Recent build:

    Spike Complete Lower:.................................250
    GA SSA-E Trigger:........................................200
    Noveske Upper:...........................................140
    DD BCG:.....................................................150
    BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle:....................55
    DD 16" CHF 1:7 Gov Profile Barrel:.................360
    LaRue 13.2..................................................329
    BattleComp 1.0:...........................................150
    Irons:.........................................................250

    Total: ~1884

So, if you wanna build your own you will get sucked down the rabbit hole... this list does not include my optic or the various parts and pieces required to assemble (armorers wrench, gas block and tube etc.) probably spending more money than is necessary. Like I did.

It has recently been sold and I have purchased a LaRue PredatAR 5.56 ($1500)

Spend the money and do it right the first time: "Buy once, Cry once"

If you do happen to get a lesser quality system (DPMS, Shrub, Stag, etc) at least do yourself the favor of upgrading the BCG. I am keeping my DD BCG from the above build as a spare. Its really quite awesome and reasonably priced.

It was too heavy and the predatAR fit the bill nicely and at a great price point. My dad was in the market for an AR too so I took off what I wanted for the predatAR and sold it to him for a steal. A goo win win for us both. It's nice cuz it's still in the "system".

The parts list above seems pretty high to me. And most of the parts are not necessary for accuracy work, imo.

There are better deals out there, imo.
