    I already sent these to Rob. Hopefully he found them helpful.

    I made these up for class to help simplify the zeroing process. Hopefully, others will find them helpful.

    I went to the range this morning and moved my zero from 50 to 100y. All shooting was done seated at the bench using two sand bags for a rest. Range rules kept me from doing much more.

    Ammo: WWB Q3131A1
    Distance: 100 yards
    Optic: Aimpoint Comp ML2
    DOT MOA: 4
    Weapon: BCM 14.5" (pinned A2X) with DD 7.0 Omega rail.

    {Keep in mind that the 4 MOA dot filled the grid part of the target}

    Here are 20 UMC .223 also shot from the bench.

    All shots are within the 8" circle with most being in the 3.5".

    EDIT: I also zeroed my irons @ the same distance; did not keep that target but the group was opened up a quite bit more.

    Jeff,

    Nice targets.

    Do you find those work as designed for different velocites/barrel lengths/bullet weight combos, or are those tailored for something like XM193 and that's all they're good for?

    I do like the idea of identifying group locations for alternative distances It allows establishing a "on the paper" zero very simply, especially the 100 yd zero target if you want to establish your zero, but initially sight in at 25.

    The shot placement is based on the calculated trajectory and what YOUR rifle and ammo does might be different. However at the distances the target is designed for (100 yards and in) the is typically not enough variation to matter.

    Here is another document that some may find helpful. It lists the bullet drop/rise at 25 yard increments out to 600 yards for various barrel lengths and loads. This is all based off of a 50 yard initial intersection and the terminal intersection varies based on the barrel length/load combo. http://tinyurl.com/3bytl4w

    For example at 100 yards with a 14.5" barrel:
    M193 = +1.6
    M855 = +1.6
    Fed 55gr TRU = +1.5
    Am. Eagle 55 gr = +1.4
    You don't see variance of significance until 300 to 400 yards.

    With a defensive rifle you are doing pretty well if you can hold a 3 to 4 inch group supported prone at 100. Your Aimpoint clicks are 1/2" at 100 yards. Thus, I don't see a sub quarter inch variance at 100 yards making a difference on how I adjust my point of impact.

    Also, I picked the impact zone size based on what I expect a reasonably well trained student with a defensive carbine to achieve in a supported prone position (1" at 25 yards, 2" at 50 yards, and 4" and 100 yards).

    i have heard (read) claims that people can make minute of angle shots with iron sights at 100... am i naive to believe that? i always feel like my groups are "bad" when they're 4" at 100 yards and that a 1" group is the goal.

    MOA groups @ 100 yards with iron sights can be done. I watched a friend of my father's do just that with a National Match M14 with ten shots from the prone. But it takes practice and dedication to do consistently

Anyway, I like to use these targets provided by another member here. They are both 50yd (with one designed for when a 25yrd range is all that's available) with variants for both 4moa and 2moa dots.

    They seem to work well for me and you might be able to find something similar (or modify these) for your 100yd zero

    These are my thoughts.
    I've used thecolters targets on a couple of occasions and they are the best RDS targets I've ever used. The 4 moa green target contrasts with the 2 moa red dot very well at 50 yds.

    Zero has forever been known as the desired POI. All this other talk is pure semantics.
