I would like a shorter light

I currently have this setup on a 10.5" Centurion upper with FSB and 7.0 rail. The light is a Surefire G2 with shock isolated bezel mounted in a Gear Sector mount.

What I would like to have is a solution that shortens the distance from the tail cap button to the mount, and from the mount forward to the bezel. It should cost the same as a G2, and it should be as bright or brighter. It should not have a convoluted selection of brightness and flashing strobes but should be simply on or off. momentary only preferred but not required. Ideally it would fit in this same mount but if I need to order an alternate size of the same mount that would be acceptable.

So you want a Surefire G1LED?

The closest I could find was this - http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...09-SureFire-3P

Interesting. I have an old 3 from when Surefire only made 3 handheld lights: 3p, 6p, and 9p. I'll have to dig it up and see about changing the head to some kind of LED. would require a different mount, and doesn't do much to move the tailcap forward, but may prove workable.

If you have any old P series bodies laying around you could cut one down to a one cell size or even your G2's.

Try searching over at candle power forums, they have tutorials for just about every kind of mod one can imgaine.

I'd prefer to avoid too much tinkering if possible. I'd even be open to some of the import lights in this case.

I was on a search for the smallest/shortest 1xCR123 pocket light with simple switching for awhile and ended up with a few. The shortest one was the Quark Tactical.

You could mount one in a mount meant for an SF E-series and it would be pretty tiny but still bright and allow for no fuss two modes by twisting the head. This would get you short and small, and I have heard of no issues when weapon mounted, but it's not a dedicated weapon light...

I like my lights mounted more forward as well so I can use as much rail as possible to grip my light. The Malkoff MD2 light works best here because you can mount on the tailcap with no loss in strength. You can then access the batteries through the head which does not come apart when opened like SF lights do. However, the price point is higher than a G2 although it's also a much better light in brightness, design, and reliability.

Another option that would fit your existing mount is the Novatac 120 which is available at various sale prices. It does have some clicky switching options that you don't like, but you can generally ignore them without them causing you trouble.

What portion of the Novatac would I need to clamp onto? It looks like the narrow portion would be where I'd want to mount it. How do you cycle through the various levels?

I thought I saw a picture of someone that had mounted one of those Quarks. Levels are changed at the bezel, by twisting I assume? Batteries are accessed at the front or at the rear?

Surefire Mini-L4 looks like a pretty sick light, you can find it at Viking Tactics. Also, they can be had without the VTAC mount, or with it. I still finding myself wanting one.

I like the looks of those, very handy at 110 lumens. Look about the same size as my E1Ls. Never mounted them due to their low output.

It shares the same body with the E1L, I think. It's sort of a combination of what they thought was the best of the three sections (tailcap, body, and headlamp assembly). I almost got one was well, but wanted more than 110 lumens. If you're just working indoors, it's probably a great light, but I use my light outdoors more than indoors probably so I got the G2x Tactical (which won't help the OP any).
