Thread: Non-anodised areas of upper, what to do?

    Aluminum protects itself by forming a layer of aluminum oxide which is hard and resists corrosion. All anodizing does is form a thicker than normal layer of aluminum oxide through an electro-chemical process. By itself, the anodizing is a dull silver color. Other materials are added to the anodizing process to give it color.

    While the ramps have not been anodized, the aluminum has reformed it's layer of aluminum oxide. Normally, by the time the ramps have worn enough to be a problem (assuming the upper is made from the proper 7075 alloy), more than a few rounds will have been put downrange and it'll be time for a new upper anyway
