What is worse than these obvious ones above that even the most passably qualified person can sniff out are the ones perpetuated by those that think they know better, most often because they've been told something rather than research and verify it on their own, who irrationally cling to their ignorance and in turn pass it on to others.

I don't want to argue the "less" lube point with you.
LOL i don't think he was arguing with you, just saying what you said, at about the same time.

I saw a future weapons episode where they were shooting the HK416, and the stupid HK rep says, "we have just shot hundreds of rounds, now hold the bolt. ITS NOT HOT, like DI ar15." Then I watched him BS his way through the showcase talking about how unreliable, dirty=malfunction, and more of the myths we have mentioned here. Then....to top it all off, after full auto fire, he shows how neet the 416 is by dunking it in water, stating that it will shoot after being in water, cleverly cooling it off, and then shooting some more. Then they say, "IT EVEN SHOOTS UPSIDE DOWN!!!"

I think i watched the rest of Everybody loves Raymond that night.

I thought, "wow, either they have a bunch of clowns working there, or they are willfully dishonest about their marketing. Last time I buy an HK."

This was the very episode that made me go hmmmm... lets see how my dirty old obsolete AR holds up for real.
What an obscene load of crap - I won't even have to post video, DD/LV already did that for us.

5.56/the M16 was intended to wound, not kill.

    Baby-wipes remove "bluing".

You have to master irons before graduating to optics.

Pistons are a desirable feature in the AR platform.

You need to have a 10.5" barrel to do interior work and/or a 24" barrel to reach out to 600 meters.

The epitome of KISS is irons, a web sling, and nothing else.

Compensators and muzzle breaks serve no purpose on an AR.

    Parts is parts.

The slightest amount of carbon will induce catastrophic malfunctions

CLP is the be-all end-all of weapons maintenance

PMAGs are flimsy and cheap. Standard issue aluminum mags are where its at

-Too much oil will cause the cartridge case to slip off the extractor, inducing malfunctions.

-Using an M16 carrier is illegal in a semi auto AR

    -Barrel twist doesn't matter.

Here's a good one for you,

If someone is shot in the shoulder with an AR's 5.56 NATO round, the bullet will start tumbling and come out their foot.
Generally, depending on the "fact" teller, they will state that the bullet goes in some place and it will exit on some remote location of an extremity on the opposite side of the body.

Good luck finding volunteers to test this one.

    .
And this effect was obtained by design (deliberatly understabilized projectiles).

55gr ammo will be wildly inaccurate out of a 1/7 barrel.
NOT in training for combat deployment.
