They can shoot ours. They can't shoot ours.

    You can't starbust a barrel.

With the right combination of stupid anything is possible.

Yes that is awesome. But...............I did that already and all I found is it Stands for Military/Police. So now I am confused. What is the myth or actual meaning of the MP line?

S&W's "M&P" stands for "Military and Police"

"MP", usually stamped into a barrels and bolts, stands for magnetic particle inspection.

The joke is some fudd thought "MP" meant "military and police"

ETA: I was just reminded of one I heard when I sold a BM upper awhile back. "If a barrel isn't marked 'CL', it isn't chrome lined."

I believe the post that got this started was referring to the MP stamped on the bolt. The M&P on S&W rifles (and pistols) means Military and Police. The MP or MPI stamped on bolts indicates that it's been tested by magnetic particle inspection.

ETA: Oops. Beaten to the punch.

It surprises me that there's this much bickering and confusion in a "myth" thread, at least here on m4c.

Th local shops here, you'll hear a myth about everything.

As for ARs, the common thig locally is that you need a 26" barrel for anything past 200 meters. Of course, that any 223 or 5.56 will penetrate your house and your neighbors. "green tip" ammo is regulated and illegal to own. I think it's been mentioned, but DPMS supplies the military, and a few other common gems.
Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~ Paul Howe

Yeah, the 5.56 shot from an AR doesn't have enough penetration to shoot badguys hiding behind a wall, but if you miss, it will go through six houses, Little Jimmy and his Teddy Bear, your best dog and your girlfriend's husband two blocks away
