    Trouble in M4 paradise

I think I might have a good one here. A few months ago, I installed an aftermarket stock on my M4. It attaches by screwing into a plug at the end of the recoil spring tube. Naturally, when installing it, I used some loctite and cranked it down a bit.

Last week, I removed said screw to install a new sling plate between the stock and reciever. When I had backed the screw out, the plug (which is threaded into the end of the tube) and the recoil spring itself came out instead! I was left with the screw stuck in the plug with the stock in the middle. Long story short, to separate them, I put some MORE loctite in the recoil tube, screwed the plug in, and let it set. SO, now the plug is back in the tube, the screw is free from the stock, but the spring is still not inside.

I need to somehow get it out, get the spring in, and the whole assembly back together. I couldn't find a screwdriver large enough to fit into the two notches, so I tried making one out of a 3/4" chisel.

No, it didn't work. I even tried putting a socket and ratchet on the end. It keeps slipping out. Hopefully I didn't damage anything on the Benelli. There's also a but nut holding the whole thing onto the reciever:

    The whole assembly:

SO, anyone seen anything like this before? Any ideas? I'm not very mechanically inclined, so any help or guidance would be GREATLY appreciated!

The anti-christ for loctite is heat. It doesn't take a lot to melt it. If the metal cools to quickly the loctite hardens again. Reheat and repeat the process until you have it apart. I'm not a gunsmith but an autootive tech with more years experience than I want to admit. Loctite can be my best friend or worst enemy

I've used heat to release a screw/bolt secured with Loctite. It works. Just curious....what color did you use?

WOAH. Gunshop! Do not start burning your $1600 shotgun. Might want to give Benelli a call or post on their online forums. Good luck! Was that the Urbino stock by chance?

A safer method than an open flame is a Heat Inductor http://www.theinductor.com/
I use one at work on a regular basis. It works.

Thanks, gents. I just used the blue stuff, so I'm thinking (read: hoping) just a heat gun will be adequate.

Not yet. I've been pretty locked down lately. I'll circle back.

My sincere thanks, gents. It took some elbow grease, but she's back together and looks good. I need to shoot it a bunch to confirm, but I'm pretty sure I'm out of the woods. The heat gun did the trick.

I hope I never have to do that shit again.

    M4 trouble

Thanks for bringing up the heat gun, I have a blue loctite problem with the buffer retainer on my ar. The last time I screwed it up it took a machine shop to get the stuck par out.
