    Actually, hip firing a shotgun was at one time taught as a valid tactic in the SF community, through the SOT school at Mott Lake. But, there is a good reason it is not stressed today- there are better ways to shoot.

    There is also a modified hip/chest shooting method taught in the Center Axis Relock shooting system. It is moderately effective.

    Any technique that allows you to take out a threat has validity in that situation. I never say "Never" but instead think in regards to what is more efficient and more likely to be needed. Hip fire is low on my personal list...
