What exactly should he be looking for with the gas system? Because my DDXV-EZ that I received last week is having the same problem, of course it might have been the fact that it was a relatively dry new rifle being run with 55gr tulammo crap(only stuff I could find at the spur of the moment 8pm on a sunday). I'm just a 19yo getting the feel for things, but it was a double feed or a FTE about every 4 rounds and then the gun locked up real tight on a empty chamber. Giving it a shot this weekend with american eagle 55gr and a clean/lubed rifle, I'm a little worried though.

What buffer are you using? If it is an H or heavier I would try a standard weight car buffer. I like to use the lightest buffer possible that will still let the rifle function correctly so if I do decide to use cheap ammo I won't have any problems. I usually carry a spare buffer in my range bag. You may hear the exact opposite but that is what works for me.

Garbage in is garbage out with ammo. I have heard from other DD owners that .223 will have issues but if you run 5.56 it's great. I have never seen another DD not able to run .223/.5.56 brass and steel in person.

I have shot PMC .223 and their 5.56 as well is Eagle 5.56 and Lake City 5.56. I haven't had any issues at all and even used the steel cased brands as well like Tula and Wolf.

My gun is completely stock DDM4 internally.

Hope everything works out for you and keep us updated.

Its the H buffer that came with the gun, if the problem continues I'll give that a shot. A buffer is a lot cheaper fix than sending a upper back.

Yeah I'm hoping it was just the ammo combined with the fact that it's a new gun. This tulammo I got from wally world seemed alot dirtier than the wolf or UCW stuff I shoot out of my sks, which is saying something. I'm doing a proper break in this weekend and will be trying out some AE 55gr .223 and 5.56 BVAC reloads on lake city brass, and also will be ordering one of those cases of IMI m193. So I'll find something this rifle likes to eat until I get a feel around the platform.

    Sorry for the hijack OP.

    Fixed it.

Found a regular carbine buffer I had from a previous AR, cleaned the shit out of the chamber and bolt, re-lubed it, took it to the range and it worked flawlessly with the .223 American Eagle ammo.

IMO, the problem(s) was what several of you mentioned:

    1-Running a H-buffer on a mid-length gas system
2-Not giving the chamber / bolt a proper cleaning after getting a brand new rifle

Thanks for the input guys, and I hope my former problem and the solution that was found is able to help others in the future!

I was going to tell you to try the CAR buffer but every1 beat me to it. Anyway, after you get a few hundred rounds through it i would try the H buffer again and if it will function on all the different ammo i would stick with it. If it doesn't, stick with the CAR.

I'm going to check but i'm assuming this is a 16" middy.

My buddy runs an h2 in his 16" middy with no problem, even shooting poop butt ammo, weird.

Well, its all relevant to the gas port size and finding the right weight buffer.

So, if your buddy has a GP of .068" and this DD is.062"(these are CAR GP's), it could be overgassed which would allow it to cycle with heavier buffers. That's not necessarily a good thing.

I think the OP is using a Stag lower which probably has a stag buffer/spring which might be the problem.

I have an over gassed Doublestar (.07" port) that will run perfectly with an H3 and Tula steel cased. That's bad!!!

    To the OP,

Not hating on you. But, I would have expected that someone who is presumably carrying a weapon for a living would have done a basic cleaning before shooting the weapon.

This thread is a pretty good primer-

    https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=79448

Additionally I have fired midlengths with H, H2 and Vltor A5 set ups reliably so I find it hard to believe that if you switched ammo it wouldn't function with the H buffer. In any case it would seem as if you have solved the problem.

I know I know. Everyother brand new rifle I have bought you just had to add oil too the bolt and it opperated fine right out of the box. I guess I just had the misconception that it would be clean from the factory since it was brand new. Also it didn't help that I was a little anxious, this thing had been sitting at my house since April. Still no excuse, especially as a infantryman

And yes I have read that thread and all the other stickies that go along with this forum, a ton of good useful information.
