    Vltor EMOD or Magpul UBR

I just purchased a S&W M&P 15 and I live in MA so the carbine has a pinned stock that is fully extended @ 10.5" and not very comfortable to shoot. I want to swap it out with something new and once I find a comfortable length then I might possibly pin it, maybe. There is nothing on the factory stock that I can reuse besides possibly the spring and buffer. I have narrowed it down to a Vltor EMOD, Magpul UBR or CTR. Obviously I need to purchase a full kit that includes everything. The Vltor EMOD kit has all needed parts, UBR has everything but the spring and buffer which my factory parts may work and Grant is selling a full stock kit with the CTR.
I would really appreciate any info based on experience that members have had with these stocks and also any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

What optic are you using with it?

The UBR once pinned only really makes sense in my mind for a longer and more front heavy rifle, or if you're using an ACOG with it (since those tend to require NTCH and aren't as comfortable if your cheek is half-on half off a stock - although the EMOD will still work great with an ACOG if you don't have orangutan arms.

In all practical terms, the EMOD is going to be the best choice. Get that full kit, or pick up a spare used EMOD (those are going to be cheap, because lots of folks got the full VLTOR A5/EMOD kit, and are keeping just the A5 stock parts) and you'll be set. If the gap on the EMOD is uncomfortable or eating facial hair, a stick covers it pretty well. I use the BCM Gunfighter stickers over that gap on mine, but most anything will do.

If you're keeping the rifle relatively light, then the CTR will be the winner. The only downside I see with that is that there isn't a whole lot of difference from the setup you already have.

At the moment I am using a Comp M4 but plan on switching to a micro T-1. I think I am going to order the Emod, reviews on them are all generally good and the complete kit isn't to expensive. I actually found it for under $170. Thanks for your help...

If you are going ot pin it save some money and go with the EMod. The best part of the UBR is that you can adjust it and keep the same cheek weld.

In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.

I like the Emods better. They pin easy and you can't even tell by looking at them afterwards.(under the battery tubes)

If you're just going to have to pin it anyway why not just go with like an A1 stock?

Honestly I don't think I am going to pin it. I will drill the hole for the pin but just won't install it unless I absolutely have to. Also the storage is a big plus on board the Emod and just looks that much better.

Took it to the range today for it's first run and couldn't get comfortable shooting it. The MA compliant model also does not have a flash hider so it was louder, recoil felt way more then an M4 should ever be and the flash was so bright that it took a couple of seconds to focus back on target. Gotta deal with that now and not sure what to do besides by another barrel with fixed flash hider.

I know you don't "want" to pin it,but it sure better than getting a felony! As for the flash hider, you have to have a break.Check out the Battlecomps.I'm gonna put one on my postban.I thought you coudn't have AR's in Boston???

We can have AR's not many to choose from but we can. I really don't understand the fixed stock and flash hider law. I definitely don't want a felony and will pin it but only after a couple of AR classes at USTC. I saw some of those preban barrel kits but they cost $600+ on brownells. Will look at the battlecomps, thanks. I started a new thread looking for help with the barrel have had no luck with the search function.
