Having a pic of the carbine as it is now to work from would be helpful.

    this chart may help you.

    Also, in many cases
(shaved-FSB + longer rail + flip front sight) < (stock FSB alone)

A mid length URX II is pretty light as it uses an aluminum barrel nut and has the fold up front sight built into it.

You would just shave your original front sight down so it would fit inside the rail.

Speaking of saving some weight at the muzzle, I remember a while back you guys were talking about do a run of BC's in titanium. Did that ever go anywhere?

Here are some actual numbers you can use to make a decision with.

The Noveske/SWS is one of the heaviest quad rails out there, due to it's beefy barrel nut. You would save about 3-4oz. by going with a DD Lite or a Centurion (assuming you stick with a 9" rail). A 9" TRX extreme handguard would save you 7.5oz compared to your current SWS/Noveske rail.

Shaving your FSB would save you 3.5-4oz. A longer rail system is about 1oz heavier per additional inch. A flip-up front sight is 1.2oz for an MBUS and 2.2oz for a Troy.
